This makes the number of participating countries 40.

Very sad to hear. I live in Los Angeles and there is a very large Armenian population nearby (in Glendale) so I am sorry to hear about what their country is going through. Have other countries dropped out, due to covid perhaps?

I hope things will calm down over there. It is a very old Christian nation with a rich history.

Armenia is, so far at least, the only one to drop out for both 2020 and 2021. The 2020 show ended up being cancelled because of covid though, but all countries had chosen their entries by then

There are countries who have left Eurovision before however. For different reasons. Bosnia & Hercegovina is taking a break since a couple years for financial reasons for example. Hungary has left because their leader finds it too gay (he is a horrible man for many reasons).
