Electronics use Gold and Silver internally because they conduct electricity. If Electric Cars boom to replace Oil based cars, Gold and Silver will be even more in demand so they'll be even more valuable.

Copper too probably. It's all undervalued in comparison with US dollars.

Aluminum is cheap, plentiful, and roughly as conductive as gold. We'll be fine.

The problem with Aluminum is that it is way more prone to corrosion than Gold. Gold is way more durable long term and is rust resistant. That's important for a lot of electronics.

It's not just about small consumer goods and phones, but Electric Cars and other high end technologically advanced products. They're going to need to use a lot of Gold and Silver

Also Gold and Silver are very important for aerospace travel as well. So as that industry expands it will increase the demand for them as well

Eh, I would argue that most mass production car companies value the reliability of their vehicles as a selling point to customers.

And even without that, there are a number of electronics that I'd rather not swap out frequently. Security cameras, washer/dryer, thermostat, televisions, etc.

It's in Catalytic converters and is a precious metal.
Theoretically, it would have much less use in an electric car, if any.

As someone who generated quotes for prototype electronics builds from medical and military to aerospace, I promise you are wrong. Gold is absolutely essential, you're not going to be bonding wires in a missile guidance system for a destroyer or control module for Curiosity using aluminum.

Gold is also unique in it's malleabilty, an ounce of gold can be flattened out to cover a tennis court so it really cannot be beat there.

There is a reason Gold is what it is.

Also, ya, no one is looking at Aluminum as the next conductor.

then you also know that it's only used on the circuit boards in minute quantities, and not in the batteries which use lithium and cobalt, or the electric motors which use copper or neodymium...right?

I think he meant in Fleet Quantities.
Then at that point, I could see Gold being used in electric vehicles more than it is today.

But ya, it's the batteries and the energy storage that is the question.
The day we have a real breakthrough in energy storage will be a big day for this world.

gold's used in non-electric vehicles too

for basically the same purposes

there's no reason to assume gold prices will be driven up in cost when the EV market is meant to compete with the combustion engine vehicle market, and not to grow independently.

lithium prices sure. but lithium is cheap.

Indeed. With vehicles and electronics it's more an issue of energy production/storage and memory capacity (for computers anyway) than it is an issue of conductivity, which is what gold is used for

Oh ya, for sure, but I would think there would be an uptick, just based of additional circuitry.

Basically, anyone in electronic engineering should spend some time on energy storage.
There has to be a better way. The energy is there.
