It could have been a complete game, achieved ROI, and Kojima would have kept his job.

Its already a fairly long title even not complete. It was already getting ridiculous

They should have given him the money. It was a huge success for the franchise and sold really well

If the project had better developmental oversight, MGS5 could have gone on to be the crowning jewel of the series.

if Kojima didn't blow MGSV's budget, and stayed at Konami, then maybe we'd be playing Silent Hills right now instead of the trash that was Death Stranding.

Kojima has always been his own biggest weakness.

Just playing through TPP, I got the sense that the money thing wasn't "hey Konami, I need another $X million because unforseen circumstances" so much as "hey Konami l, I need another $X million because I got this hilarious idea while I was falling asleep last night to put a zoo on the offshore plant!"

Guy's a genius but he badly needs people to focus his scope.

Building an entire engine from scratch probably made up a pretty big chunk of that budget.

It still would have suffered from a bad story and a lack of focus, but with one more proper boss fight tacked on the end, and it would likely still be my least favorite entry in the series

This basically.

Even unfinished as it is, it's still the 19th most expensive game ever made IIRC. And no budget was ever gonna change the fact that Ground Zeroes promised us a gritty revenge story and instead we got musings about hamburgers and the importance of language

I think Snatcher is his best work in terms of storytelling, and in large part because it feels like his most focused and most restrained. Not including that crappy third chapter that was later added on.

Did they need to create a whole new engine for it? Looking back at what you could, it didn't seem groundbreaking. Even the visuals were nothing impressive. It's like the only reason they did, was because they could.

Are you fucking blind? Konami refusing to use or license out the FOX Engine for videogames is one of the biggest shames in the industry. That thing was so fucking good
What could it do that any other already available game engine couldn't?

its still considered a top game. With gameplay regarded as one of the best. I fully believe a fleshed out game would make it the definite GOAT

Kojima himself said he was always on time and on budget.

People make a lot of assumptions about you; what's the biggest misconception?

A lot of people say that I spent too much money or take too much time, but thats a misconception. My last project was late about five or six months, but Ive always kept my word on timelines and budget. For example, I do take three to four years to make games, but that's the plan from the start.

I take a lot of time because I create my own teasers, posters, and I work on how to create the box for sales. Japanese creators are famous for being loose with schedules, and I think people put me in that category, but it's not reality. In my case, I'm a director and a producer, so I have to stay aware of production and the budget.

Kojima getting fired, creating a new studio, and making Death Stranding all within like 3 years is pretty insane. Dude hustles.

Imagine Fox engine with the density of activities like in gta, without forced multiplayer interaction. Make it optional. Like damn, I'd pay twice over. Of course, with Kojima stamp on it.
