I don't know how you can compare the motivation of pre-schoolers getting a non-consequential gold star that means nothing to someone that's working hard to either have the money to live and/or provide for a family and/or increase their economic and class standing. Getting paid is not supposed to be a reward, it's compensation for doing tasks that people don't want to do but need to be done.
