Voyager 1 has made contact with friendly aliens from beyond the moon.

Unfortunately it has somehow also transmitted a fatally devistating Earth disease that mutated as it traveled through space that has made them all fiercely ill and will kill them all.

Their scientists discover that the only cure (for reasons that are far too complicated for you to understand even when they try to explain it to you because their biology is different to ours) comes out of your dog's unique brain. They will have to rip it apart to synthasize the treatment and save billions.

The aliens are too sick to come to Earth and can only send one of their FTL probes for us to put the dead pet inside so it can be sent back to them in time. The probe obviously cannot kill the pet itself. So the burden falls on Earth and ultimately you to make the call.

We caused the disease inadvertantly. It's our fault, shouldn't it be up to us to save them?
But you didn't do anything, neither did your pet. Would you refuse out of love and let the aliens all die?

This is by far the most important question. If they're Twi'leks or Asari, I'll sacrifice a million dogs.

If they're sentient than yes.

I love my dog. But it's countless lives we're talking about, an entire race of sentient beings. I'd hope they would do the same for us.

if such a contrived scenario happened to me irl it would all but confirm there is either a.) a simulation happening or b.) a god directly invested in my life and throwing scenarios at me. in which case id rather just keep my dog. my first instinct was yes but now im solidly voting no, im keeping my doggo

I would. I'd hate it, and I'd be heartbroken but I'd do it (assuming that hypothetically these are peaceful, non-evil because yes, aliens).

It'd be selfish to say that one life is worth more than the lives of billions just because I'm attached to it.

No. My dog is a member of my family and I would never do anything to harm her. I actually lobbied to my parents to have them start cooking her human food rather than giving her dog food. That stuff is bad for them.

I know what I have to do, but I don't know if I have the strength to do it.
