Once you start moving past that it gets a little contentious. SwSh are still the worst by a country mile, but theres arguments to be made about whether XY/SM surpass DP.

ORAS were pretty good remakes, so I think XY as a generation gets a pass

I think Gen V is the best in the series. It got torn apart when it was coming out by genwunners who could not FATHOM playing a campaign where they couldn't just catch the same Pokemon they had been catching for the last decade and a half. That might sound like a strawman but there are literally people on CE who will say that's the reason B/W sucks. Or people that have an aneurysm that there's a trashbag pokemon when Gen I had literally a purple puddle of waste with a smile and eyes drawn on.

Looking back, I can say that I appreciated each gen for what it was, but my least favorite gen was gen 2. I didn't like any of the starters in gen 2. Also, being able to go to Kanto was exciting, but I felt that it was also a huge letdown because it was so stripped down.

Maybe I was just growing up but Gen 4 is definitely where I felt the magic in the franchise kinda leave. I still played the next 3 gens bc I enjoy the core gameplay but the fans never felt as special to me as the first 3 gens.

Slow movement, large region, no fire types, too many HMs.

On the plus side, Staraptor was like the best beginning of the game mon ever.

Problem with base diamond and pearl is the pokedex, when your only fire types is the starter and ponyta/rapidash you messed up somewhere. Gen 4 battles were slow but obviously it's not gonna be as slow as that in the remakes.
