Am I the only one who hates this trope. No Batman, killing joker does not make you as bad as joker. Just snap his neck and move on

I hate it too, it's like this is literally a guy who will never reform or learn from his actions and has already killed thousands of people, and if he ever escapes he's just gonna do it again but nope killing this one guy will be the same as doing all that he did

It's like just kill him before he inevitably escapes again wtf

Dude, there is literally a thread right now where CEmen dont support the death penalty.

Maybe the Joker is really innocent and another villain is framing him. I mean its a universe with literal magic, gods, monsters, demons and super powered criminals. It could be like that Mysterio guy from Marvel, manipulating what we know.

Batman can't just have one or he'll go on a bender and keep on murdering until he passes out. He's a killaholic and he's capable of killing a lot of people.

With that, someone like Captain America or Superman, who aren't insane could probably do it without spiraling out of control.

Technically his reason is that once he crosses that line, he'll keep doing it until he's killing people who don't deserve it. Modern Batman stories have made it a point to demonstrate how insane he is so I can kind of see it.

This.
Batman is a traumatised, obsessive individual. The phrase "I'll become as bad as them" isn't really in regards to taking a single life as he knows that once he does take a single life, he'll find reasons to do so for his entire rogues gallery.

Pretty much. I dont think he gives a fuck if hes executed "legally" i say that cause he loses his shit if other people try to kill joker too. But with superman I think its more that he knows superman could do all sorts of other things besides kill him. Like paralyze him.

If I was a superhero I would not kill them and have them locked up for life because letting them die is too easy for them. They should lose their freedom and pay for their crimes.

But the comic book writers are dogshit and keeps returning the villains out of jail. If it was even a tiny bit realistic nobody would be living in Gotham City after all the shit that has happened.

The fact Batman could likely fix most of Gotham (and America's) societal problems with his money, technology and influence and stop so many people getting into crime to begin with, therefore robbing many of his villains henchmen and ability to do their evil is pretty sus as well.

its a well known fact that batman is just as fucking insane as his rogue gallery. why else would a guy with the money and intelligence of tony stark, who has on several occasions actually built a robotic bat suit only to never use the thing, instead chosen to put on spandex and beat seven shades of shit out of them with his fists?

not just something you see in comics

we just finished going through the harry potter series, and as much as harry beats himself up for the deaths of dobby, remus lupin, and nyphadora tonks because the battle of hogwarts had to happen, it's even more jarring that he had the chance to kill or permanently disable their murderers multiple times.

the whole idea that murder itself damages your soul, ok. in book two the heroes learn that it's possible to use the spell obliviate to permanently destroy someone's memory/mind and render them helpless. the heroes learn to cast this spell. and...they always use it in a limited form.

really their entire world is kind of guilty of this. the deadliest mass murderers and torturers are locked up...but their ability to do magic is not hindered in any way, shape, or form. so the moment they escape and acquire a new wand they are every bit as dangerous as before. a very artificial sense of security.

I did like in kingdom come batman was the only hero who ever got his city crime free while the rest of the world was a shit show. In old age he hung up the cape and built a police force of batbots iirc. Basically widenening his fear angle. Now it wasnt what if batman is lurking in the shadows it was almost a certainty.

Kingdom Come also shows some serious downsides to what happens when you start killing villains.
