I just learned that there is thinking that the Chinese fleet came to California.

There is no hard proof but it is possible. China had the ships and the leaders to do it. I cannot find any consistent accounts. But it is just fascinating. Google up a video or article. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FCl2lbRvWY Or even read the book 1421.

It would be fun if someone could prove it.

Im not gonna watch, but I remember seeing a show that talked about a time when the Chinese sailed large multi masted ships all over the world, but for some reason( I forget why), they became insular, and lost the ability to build large craft.

No they didn't. This is Gavin Menzies-levels of ahistorical nonsense.

Gavin Menzies's nonsense theories are unanimously considered tripe by historians.

I start twitching every time I see someone recommend 1421.

"I need more proof... like an artifact on American soil"

You mean any proof. This one isn't particularly hard, you find a pre Columbian metal tool of any kind in North America, you've got a convincing start. I'll wait.
