Swedish Christian Democratic leader Ebba Busch bought a run down house and the plot of land its on from an 81 year old man. The man claims he regretted the sale the day after and tried to have it revoked which Ebba didnt want to do. A made deal is a made deal after all.

However! There is a lengthy medical and psychological evaluation which states that the 81 year old is unfit cognitively and thus cannot make a deal like this without a trustee. There is also some realtor analysis which states that Ebba paid a very low price for the land and house in comparison to the market value. Ebba tweeted, for some reason, that the 81 year olds legal counsel was convicted of some crime many years ago and this should make the court case be thrown out. Now shes been sued for libel and defamation by the legal counsel. So she got 2 trials coming up.

Now this is going to court and regardless of whether Ebba is right or wrong legally, she didnt know the man was cognitively impaired, this is hurting the public trust in her. She comes across as cruel and taking advantage of an old man. The ChristDems core in politics is the protection of children and the elderly which makes this extra harmful for the party. They have dropped from a high of 12% in the polls to 4.5%. The minimum threshold to hold seats in Riksdagen is 4%. The next election is in September 2022 but this could do real damage to the party since it just keeps dragging on and on (the whole thing started this past Summer).

At what point is a man too old to make his own decisions? This seems morally gray.

When a medical and psychological evaluation like this states an old person is unfit cognitively it usually means you have some sort of pathology (dementia).

I'm not so sure. That party has been moving closer and closer to SD territory which is more about hating immigrants and vulnerable people than anything else. But fingers crossed!

This whole thing, regardless of how immoral it is (and it is absolutely ghoulish by Thor) perplexes me. She's showing such poor judgement, like, shouldn't she be smart enough to understand that this is a PR disaster?

That's good at least but will it stick until the election?

Based on previous knowledge, it takes time to build trust and if torn down it often doesnt recover.

On the other hand, it feels like KD regularly lose trust every time people remember that they're anti abortion, then they still manage to distract people with other issues. But I hope you're right, I have no love for Ebba.
