I've been told by a shrink I'd more than likely qualify for disability due to my bipolar disorder.... but I never applied so I'm not sure if that counts.

Tbh back when it came up I probly would have applied but given the ridiculously low amount of money it pays and the fact it would take a minimum 6 months to get approved it wasn't really an option.

My doctor said I should apply after my first round of surgeries and I am supposed to have more, but this is Georgia and I heard it was a major pain in the ass and Im not sure I want any record of it for future employment.

I can hide the fact that Im in pain pretty well, and I just look stiff when Im walking or something.

how severe is your scoliosis? do you have an upper curve, lower curve, or both, or what? do you know the degree of your curvature(s) how difficult was it to get on disability for it? i have scoliosis too, i think we've discussed it before. i've been going to physical therapy and pain management for it and for the chronic back pain it contributes to, and i have an appointment for a consultation with orthodepic specialist next month as well.

i've been looking into trying to get on disability for it but from what i've learned so far scoliosis isn't generally a good guarantee of qualifying. but i did just have some x-rays done and my curvatures analyzed, and i was given the degrees of my curvatures for the first time since i think i was discharged from Shriner's Hospital when i turned 18, and apparently my upper curvature is 41 degrees and my lower curvature is 54 degrees, which are classified as high-moderate and severe respectively. i don't remember the degrees being that high back then. i was pretty sure they were in the 30s and 40s. and they told me that once the skeletal growth is complete, they shouldn't progress any further. well, that doesn't seem to be the case. i wonder if having the proof now of it being classified medically as severe would help me get on disability for it. i sure could use it right now.

I think it's that once you're done growing it just doesn't "dramatically" change anymore. Because everyone's spines get worse over time regardless. Ours just has a much worse starting point after full growth. We're still gonna age and have that effect it casually. That's not a medical opinion, just an observation. But I wish I could help more. I find it more relaxing to not think about my circumstances with my conditions, so I don't have that information on hand. I'm more the type to just accept what Im dealing with and work around it with as little insight as possible lol. I don't need a daily reminder of being stunted. I also have no idea how much my stomach problems play into it. They're undiagnosed but at the same time are common in someone with my condition. Sometimes they even speculate the scoliosis could be causing them.

So is your spine shaped like an S?

i get that mentality. i was sort of the same way for awhile there too, but as my condition has deteriorated in the last few years, i found i was really wanting to get that specificity just to have some peace of mind in knowing exactly where my condition is at. and yeah, if you have stomach issues, i wouldn't be surprised if the scoliosis could be a contributing factor. it can change the entire shape of your torso. turn your ribcage to the side, make your pelvis uneven, stretch muscles and meat on one side and compress them on the other.

and yes, my spine is shaped like an S, sort of. this is my most recent x-ray, from about a month and a half ago:

Damn. That's not an S that makes you feel like superman. I'm pretty sure mine is similar. It's enough that I showed it off to people as a topic of conversation. The one time I showed my cousins gf, then her friend got there and she told me to show her and I said "I'm not just some freak you can show off to your friends....neh, Im jp Ill show her". If humor isn't the best coping mechanism, I don't know what is.
