That was to promote Skyward Sword. The stage itself looks like Hyrule Field from Twilight Princess though.... Not sure why I expected any real consistency from a shitty Sonic game.

Why did a Wii U game have a stage designed to promote a Wii game that had been out for several years? >_>

That game also had a Yoshi stage in it as well.

I don't think so. Skyward Sword came in 2011. This game came out 2 years later, and this DLC in 2014, the same as Hyrule Warriors and

Not sure why but it only references Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time and to a much lesser extent Twilight Princess. Nothing specific or alluding to Hyrule Warriors is in it. Considering Skyward Sword Link is in the stage riding his red Loftwing it's more of a Skyward Sword reference then a Hyrule Warriors one.

It wasnt made to promote any one Zelda game especially ones already out for a few years.

But it's more relevant to Skyward Sword than Hyrule Warriors like TC tried to say regardless.

And? Doesnt mean it was done to promote it. It has some TP and OOT stuff in it as well so by your logic it was done to promote them as well. It was literally just a fun cross over thing.

It wasn't to promote any specific game. Sonic Lost World was Sonic copying Mario and initially exclusive to Nintendo platforms as part of a deal Sega made, so Sonic Team thought it'd be a good idea to tribute other Nintendo games with DLC. They tributed Zelda and Yoshi's Island.

Also, lol Sonic Lost World was trash

Those were the only three games directly referenced in base HW.

It was just a bonus since Sonic was a paid Wii U exclusive by Nintendo at the time (what a waste lol).

I never understood why Sega thought an exclusivity deal with Nintendo was a good idea when the Wii U was clearly flopping. No point in releasing games on a dying platform. Not like other platforms missed out, though, because Lost World was some shit. Colors and Generations weren't good, either, but you'd think Sonic Team would have stuck with that formula as those games were well-received.

Not that I don't understand trying to change it up, because there's just not much you can do with those shallow boost-to-win games. But it was too soon to go back to experimenting; I'd say people getting bored of a formula that was already proven to be successful is better than them immediately disliking something brand new. Lost World should have just been another Generations, but with better controls, level design and physics.

Nintendo very likely moneyhatted it, possibly in response to a lot of larger Western publishers deciding to jump ship.

I actually liked Lost World, for what it's worth.

The stage as has a reference to A Link to the Past as well, but it's not as much as the others.

Looks like the deal was made public 6 months into the Wii U lifespan so it was done quite early and before they knew the system was a flop that they wouldn't be able to salvage. At the time they would have been basing it on Sonic games historically selling well on Nintendo platforms.

And yeah Sonic Team always is a company who manages to somehow fuck it up. Lost World seemed like it would be good after Generations. Now Forces shows they don't even know how to make a game like that anymore either.

It was obvs the Wii U would flop before it was even released. These was nothing remarkable about it; a giant tablet-esque controller was never gonna win over the public.

Sonic Team just never knew how to bring the character into 3D. It took them more than a decade to realize that Sonic Adventure's formula was never the right direction for the series. And while Colors and Generations were steps in the right direction, they were still poor games overall; boosting to win is only fun for so long, and the flip-flopping between dimensions is redundant. They're only notable games because they follow a series of remarkably trash games like Shadow, Sonic 2006, Secret Rings, Unleashed and Black Knight.

There's never been an even remotely decent fully 3D Sonic game. Never a game with a proper utilization of momentum-based physics like the Genesis games. Fan devs have a better idea of what Sonic should be like in 3D than Sonic Team does.

Very medicore at best. They're mainly boost to win through endless corridors with terrible controls and bad level design, especially in the 3D sections. Colors also has tacky powerups that break the flow of the game, and Generations' version of Classic Sonic is utterly inferior to the Genesis games.

2005-2009 was just the worst time for Sonic; infamous trash like Shadow, Sonic 2006, Secret Rings, Unleashed and Black Knight came out during that period. A game even remotely passable is gonna shine if it follows that.
