Where the protagonist is someone who wasn't a massive fucking loser, had it all/was rich, and was living their best life, but gets sent to a shitty world that doesn't cater to their generic fantasy whatsoever? Instead of embracing this world as something cool, they detest their situation with every fiber of their being. They also don't gain any special powers or anything, they're just suddenly a broke nobody in a terrible world. They also aren't shining beacons of morality, and are more likely to manipulate the people of this new world to help them find their way back home (on account of not considering these people to be actual people) instead of being some inexplicable badass who can overcome all obstacles with simple violence?

Minus the last bit about manipulating people, this describes Now and then, Here and There pretty well.

Rising of the Shield Hero is close. Dude was normal and all, but he gets treated like shit and hates being a chosen hero. And generally stands up for himself and is like "fine fuck it I'll be the bad guy." It's great.

Only one of I've seen that hits closest to that mark is Saga of Tanya the Evil.

I don't think the kid is a jackass like TC wants but generally speaking he isn't like your typical isekai hero.

These are actually pretty decently close with a few differences.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to even consider it an isekai. I guess if you squint and use a really broad definition, but even if you do the MC is relentlessly optimistic, doesn't detest the world.

He literally gets teleported to a new world in the first episode. I'd argue you have an extremely narrow view of isekai if you limit it to the modern trends. Portal fantasy is a genre that goes back a long way.

Aside from that..
Shu is depicted as happy with his life in japan.
He definitely detests the world he finds himself in.
He has no powers.
He is not a badass.

He's not manipulative, but I don't think he's a shining beacon of morality either. He's trying his hardest to remain optimistic. i think he comes off as pretty desperate in some of his scenes with the soldiers of hellywood (and with sara).

Tanya does fit the manipulative role better, so its probably the better fit for what TC wants,

That said, i stand by NTHT as a recommendation, its a great show.

Because he didn't want shows with OP MCs. Admittedly, his OP-ness is moreso because of his personality, but I digress.

FFF Class Trash Hero fits most of that list. Nothing is really known about the MCs life before getting isekai, but he does hate being summoned to a primitive world and being expected to save them. MC does solve his problems with violence in the most satisfying ways like killing his companions for annoying him.

I'm not sure if Tanya is this. Yeah, he/she initially hates it and is turned into a child but he very quickly becomes a prodigy and OP head of the army who revels in what he does.
Still, I think personality wise he still fits the bill. Not a very remorseful person who's main driving force is pure spite and hatred for God. He revels in what he does not because of where he is, more so because he's always enjoyed elevating himself at the expense of others.

Worst part for me. He is just being a massive dick to be a massive dick. At least Shield Hero had a reason to be a dick and wasn't a dick all the time.

Gantz is kind of like this. It's not true isekai but the protagonist finds himself exposed to a secret occult side of the world that normal people don't know about.

They're technically dead but forced to do these dangerous competitions in order to extend their lives for a day and if they earn enough points over several days they can go back to life as normal.

Well that's the setting anyway not what actually happens.

Huh, I was mostly asking cuz it seems like its an extremely easy genre to make interesting/put fun twists on, but the majority of it is basically indistinguishable. I was thinking of doing some side writing projects to have a fun little deviation from my main thing for a while since I've never actually done so, and the things I want to try out are genres I basically despise. lol >_>

I used to read an isekai web novel where the main character is an angry jerk who manipulates everyone around him because hes a coward and cant fight. It had a lot of funny moments and the main character keeps things interesting by remaining an asshole no matter what. The writer goes overboard with that sometimes though. Its called How To Avoid Death on A Daily Basis

I just started reading this and it seems the writer has read quite a few isekai them self.

We were the sort of party that needed to stumble upon an OP weapon and become legendary heroes by having a massively unfair advantage over everyone.

That quote from chapter 11 pretty much sums up every isekai ever.
