The Internet was so much better when it was just a vast fountain of knowledge and millions of communities of likeminded individuals on any given topic. Social media and boomers, zoomers, whoever ruined this. Now everyone thinks they are entitled to everyone seeing their opinions on everything. They opened it up while ironically leading people to insulate themselves and form in-groups more than ever.

The Internet works as a safe space. It's not supposed to be a microcosm of America. It's global, universal. Those little unique cultures make the rules and norms of their communities, not national governments.

Everyone should belong to whatever echo chambers interest them. Screw this social media "Please look at my opinons. Muh free speech" bullshit. The Internet is anarchy. Carve out a corner and enjoy. No one actually is interested in exposing themselves to every diverse opinion on Earth and I don't know why social media has pushed that meme. Would you tell a wrestling forum that they better start allowing discussion on anime? The Internet is a buffet. Take what you like.

He also says the internet shouldn't be an open forum and should be a safe space implying it should be censored... but unique cultures formed by communities and not the government wouldn't exist if that's the case so the entire post is very contradictory. Unless he's saying each unique community should be a safe space and kick out anyone who's not in line with them?

I didn't say it's a bad thing. I said all this fighting and drama ironically makes it happen anyway.

Online communities are safe spaces of a sort and they choose their rules and what to allow or not. People have been getting punished for breaking rules on websites for decades and suddenly it's a free speech issue that the American government should step in on. We already have too many countries meddling with speech online. You could say the Internet is a place where "anarchy" or "communism" can actually work.

its not a free speech issue though, its an issue of people not understanding what free speech actually means and thats an entirely separate thing that people try to obfuscate so they seem like their shitty views being deleted have merit
