If you don't accept that, that's your prerogative, but it isn't going to be true for everybody. I personally find his attitude and speedlores to be super wholesome and positive.

Anyway, I found the video interesting and wanted to share it with anybody else who might find it interesting.

That's up to you. Some people have a hard time separating artist and art. Other people can do it easily.

But it's your choice and no one should shame you for whatever decision you make.

I generally give the artist the benefit of doubt, unless the proof is overwhelming. But in general I have difficulty separating the two.

Literal nazis conducted violence, he never even advocated for it in his ironic private shitposts from 3+ years ago.

Some people have dark sense of humor, or feel conflicted about tearing down statues. That doesn't make them equivalent to the guy operating the gas chamber. And it's pretty toxic to act like it does. Particularly when the people you throw to the curb conduct themselves with such decency and positivity.

Everybody has 100% right to like or dislike whoever. But putting false labels on people is messed up.

He never advocated violence let alone the death of jews. I've been familiar with the guy for years, this is my genuine impression of him:

It's not that he literally thinks speedrunners are sub human or some shit, but he found it funny to talk in those terms. He has since unlisted any video like this because he doesn't want to put out things that can be viewed as negativity. Even though I think if you watch a video like this you see he isn't being sincere in putting anybody down.

So when he's talking in a basically private discord about shit he would say jokes that out of context would seem offensive. Maybe he's doing that because he's riffing with a friend, maybe he's doing that purely ironically, or maybe he was doing that because at some point some uncle or some shit got into his head that jews run the world or something dumb.

But at the end of the day he never once advocated actual violence, he never once made a statement declaring hate for anybody. He was a shitposting edgelord. And this was all 3+ years ago.

He got a little wiser and he understood that even though he wasn't positing this on twitter or anything public like that, these kinds of jokes and comments are probably not appropriate. But those who rush to label him hardly rush to find context.

Do I think he's somewhat on the conservative side? Yeah, probably, like somebody who has been treated like a monster isn't likely to be a fan of the leftist SJW mobs. But that doesn't make him a "literal nazi" in any sense of the word. He apologized for what he said, and even though it was private discord shit, and impossible to tell if it was mostly or entirely ironic or sarcastic, he totally owned up to it and moved on. Plus he's always wholesome af, celebrating the legacy of people being passionate about speedrunning.

How long does somebody in that scenario have to be crucified? Like this isn't like he had a manifesto or a plan to hurt anybody. He was being an edgelord in what he thought was private.

Should we doxx all the users of 4chan? Even those who moved on years ago? Calling somebody now a literal nazi when all they did was say words that may be ironic or sarcastic on a private discord 3+ years ago is weird. Like trevor noah recently had on people who were members of a hate group and left. And they were welcomed to his show. There's that one woman who left the Westboro Baptist Church who people fucking love.

These aren't people who shitposted in private, these are people who made being part of hate groups their identity. And yet you probably tune into those episodes of the daily show all while hanging ryan out to dry.

I'm so sick the times when he made a good video and I share it and I have to have this same discussion.

Because to be clear I'm fine with people not liking him, but what is beyond obnoxious is when people come in and demand nobody else like him. Or worse yet hate him without even knowing why.

The solution to this kind of problem is easy. It's to take personal ownership, just like he did. He owned what he said even though he never meant it for public consumption, he apologized, and never talks like that anymore.

Here is how you can take personal ownership. You can say things like "I don't like this person because I think they are a white supremacist." or "I think this person is a nazi."

That makes it clear it's your opinion.

But when you make it a statement of fact you have a much higher bar to pass.

Because IMO if somebody has never made any public declaration of their beliefs about WS or yay nazi, and all you have to go on is private edgelord shitposting from years ago, AND the person doesn't stand behind it AND you have no idea of the context AND you absolutely can't prove they weren't being sarcastic or ironic AND the person conducts themselves in a wholesome and kind way.

Then you are just projecting. You are free to not like them and you are free to pass judgements. But you forfeit the right to call somebody a "literal" anything.

If somebody said shit online years ago you think is bad, you get happy when they turn a new leaf, you don't piss in their face for trying to be better. You don't have to like them, but I think it's sad when we don't tolerate people being better than their worst private moments, particularly when we don't know if those words were jokes or what.

Him and Karl are great. I'm happy to see how much success Karl has got, particularly considering that not long ago Karl was small and using goose to get started.

i mean you can like him and not care about the situation, idc, but dont pretend he was being edgy lol. he made no jokes, he wasn't attempting to get a rise out of anyone, he was just talking about white supremacist stuff with his fan discord. and he was intentionally using coded language like "jq" for jewish question to make sure he didnt piss off anyone

and his apology sucked, he did the whole " i have changed and become a better person" when he was espousing some very deep set-sounding beliefs literally a year before he got caught
