I should not have to download an app and sign up for account and give them my location data to CALIBRATE A SCALE

I don't mind a bit of setup for more convenience down the line.

Can attest that smart thermostats are overall way inferior to old school ones.

How? Old school thermostats don't have the functionality or convenience of smart thermostats.

Batteries that die. Dont always respond even though wifi is flawless.

Never had issues with old school thermostats, ever. They set the temperature.

my smart watch wants me to enable location access AT ALL TIMES while I'm using the app.

I never use the app but still, why.

I will never use any of the bull fucking shit ass "find my phone" or whatever.

If I lose my phone, I'll just go get another fucking one don't need the app for the watch on the fucking phone to know my locaiton 24/7

The irony is that there's nothing smart about smart devices. They're essentially guaranteed to be riddled with problems compared to a "dumb" version. Imagine one day when you can't use your toaster because it couldn't do a online verification test or some stupid shit. Sometimes I really hate where the future is heading.

My Nest thermostat has a battery that recharges itself from the HVAC wiring. I've had the same Nest thermostat for almost 4 years now and haven't had to change any batteries on it. I also haven't had a problem with the responsiveness of my nest thermostat. I can control it from my phone or with my voice through my Google Home devices and it responds promptly.

I can also control my thermostat from my phone anywhere I have a data connection.

Or, y'know, you could just walk over there and change it.

What? Smart devices are generally indeed smart. Smart devices generally have functionality that creates a more convenient user experience that non-smart devices don't have.

Yeah, but that's not always an option, nor is it the most convenient method. If I'm at work and I realize I left my a/c or heat on, I can just turn it off from my phone. If I wake up in the middle of the night and I want to change the temperature, I can just say "Hey Google, set the temperature to X" and it'll set the thermostat. If I'm in the middle of working on something critical for work, I can set my thermostat without having to stop and go over to the thermostat.

I should not have to download an app and sign up for account and give them my location data to CALIBRATE A SCALE

Step 1: Buy a scale thats only expensive because its smart and features an app to track information
Step 2: Complain the scale you bought requires an app and an account

Seriously, just go buy a regular scale. Obviously a smart scale is going to use an app.
