If for any reason you have no idea what some of these do, see below for a quick explanation.










Results Gather via the Nominations topic

Supernova: Just a powerful attack. But the attack lasts a full 2-minutes. Everytime it's used, you get to WAIT.
Whirlsand/Snort/Goannai: These attacks Eject your party members from battle.
Steal: Any enemy that can steal an item from you, including Elixirs.
Final Sting: Super Strong suicide attack (enemy dies after) that has a chance to outright kill you.
Bad Breath: You get hit with just about all status effects at once. These include Doom, Confuse, Small, Petrify, Sleep, and the list goes on.
Ultima via Magic Master: Just an absurd attack that you need to either block off a party member or have Reraise ready. Insta Kills and game over otherwise.
Grand Cross Damage and deadly Status Effects including Doom, Petrify, and the occasional Zombie.
Aire Tam Storm: Does extra damage based on how much Materia you have on. If you have 9 materia equipped, then gg (9999 dmg to everyone).
Frog/Toad: Turns you into a frog or toad, negating your Attack stat to 0 and unable to do anything else, except use items in some games.
Everyone's Grudge: Damages a party member based on the missing HP of the Tonberry (eg. Tonberry has 10/10 hp. Now it has 2/10 hp. Everyone's Grudge hits for 8 damage). Couple this with the fact that Tonberries generally have absurdly high HP counts to kill, it may just outright kill a party member.

Both of which are stupid. I don't like losing elixirs or gear and have more resets due to that than losses via Bad Breath.

FF8's Tonberry King got me once. I farmed the full 30 something tonberries too, without saving, and then he did that Junk attack and it gibbed my party. Yeah I forgot to heal.

Bad Breath will run away with the victory I feel, but I'm actually gonna go with Whirlsand/Snort after giving it some thought. The status effects are bad, sure, but losing a party member like that is super annoying.

During that FFt 1.3 playthrough. Anytime a battle was basically over and I'm hoping for crystals to appear, that one enemy I leave alive seemed to almost always have Steal/Battle Skill. And at that point, they would just use it over and over and kind of ruin the point of waiting.

Supernova is getting my vote for how obnoxious it is. No way to get around it beyond just blitzing him to death with Knights of the Round or something before he gets to use it. It's not even threatening, just wastes your time like crazy. Bad Breath is pretty annoying but at least it's only a serious issue in two games, outside of 8 and 10 it's reasonable. And even in those you can at least deal with it, the problem is just that you don't know you need to until after it's already sucker punched you for an automatic game over if you didn't happen to have the right status protection by chance (which you probably won't since there's very little to encourage it otherwise0

I would have voted for the sorcerer/mindflayer physical attack with random instant death, but I think I was the only one who nominated it.

So Bad Breath gets it (and even if Im well equipped to face them, Malboros will always make me feel uneasy when I fight them for a first time in a game...)

Voted for Grand Cross. The animation isn't short and it seems to cause every status effect in the game including instant death, many of which have no existing defenses.

Bad Breath for sure. Especially because in the games with random encounters it can be an instant wipe if the Malboro attacks first.

That was my chief nom, but apparently didn't get enough extra noms to make the cut. I don't think enough people make it far enough into X-2 to experience the blood-boiling rage that was fighting Chac.

The funny thing is FFX final boss has the same attack (called "touch" I think) but it's very rare in the AI pattern and you get a little bit of time to recover before permanent damage happens.

Chac is just fucking relentless.

I'll go with Snort, mostly because there tends to be nothing you can do about. I hate when I can't do anything about losing a character, be it instadeath or removal from the battle.

It does in most Final Fantasy games. In Final Fantasy XIII it works based on the damage the Tonberry has received.

insta-kill moves (especially those that eject your character so you cant revive or even swap with someone else in the party)

steal (where the enemy actually steals from your inventory

confuse/charm effects

no other moves are nearly as bad
