It's good, but idk why people constantly rub their dicks over it like it's literally the best game ever >_> The 1st half of the game is fun, but the 2nd half is just nothing but a dungeon grind. The world building sucks too: there's only 1 town and the rest of the world is just monsters everywhere. Link's Awakening imo is the best 2D Zelda and is what Link to the Past failed to be.

To show my certification that my opinion is objectively, subjectively, and literally correct, here's my top 3 Zeldas >_>
Majora's Mask
Ocarina of Time
Breath of the Wild

All Zelda games are inherently overrated.

They are very good on the whole. I think Okami is a better Zelda game than any of the Zelda titles.

Yeah, when I played through it a few years ago, a lot of it was just not very memorable. It was fun while it lasted though. I've been wondering how good that fan game Parallel Worlds is.

Have you played A Link Between Worlds?

It's an 8.5, but if you play it immediately after ALttp then it's honestly like a 9-9.5/10.

I don't really want to elaborate further tbh.

I think one thing that makes ALttP great and that made it unique at the time is the epic structure. You do three dungeons, then some kind of transformative event happens (usually obtaining the Master Sword), the world completely changes, then you do 5-6 more dungeons before the final lair. At the time it was mindblowing that you had a whole second world to explore.
Same. I remember Nintendo Power and previews in general listed nothing about the Dark World. Everyone harps on about SotN's twist, but this was so much crazier when it happened.

Last time I tried playing it, I quit at the part where you need to follow a monkey through a maze and then pay him rupees to open the dungeon. Usually I have enough rupees at that point but I didn't this time and was already just not feeling the game that much and didn't want to back my way out of the maze and then go farm rupees. I assume there is more of that kind of stuff, where you don't realize it's a problem if you never run into it, but if you do it's annoying.

Some of the items in the game come to mind. Being able to do dungeons out of order or finding important items in random caves are fun for exploration, but I can see why the series started phasing that out. It sucks if you get deep into something then find out you're unequipped for it.

100% is mostly a waste of time though so I don't think that's the best way to judge it, or really almost any game. There's definitely a point when collecting stuff stops providing any meaningful upgrades to help you beat the game and just turns into mindless compulsion

It's solid and one of the better games in the SNES library. But I agree that it's not amazing. To me it's a bit of an ambivalent installment in the series: trying to do both a sort of non-linear, go wherever you want thing (although dialed down compared to LoZ) while at the same time trying to figure out the quirky, cartoony feel of the modern games. And it doesn't fully deliver on either.

ALBW is so disappointing, it felt more like a pseudo reboot than a proper new game. And easily the least challenging 2D Zelda by far

It was my first one, and I have fond memories of it...but ALBW fantastic, and better in every way.

And I have tried three times since its release to get into Majora's Mask, and just can't. It should in theory be one of my favorites since I love nonlinearity and side quests, but the game is too nonlinear. It's not as cryptic as something like Simon's Quest, but I still have no idea what I'm doing.

See that's the only one I've played that I found to be overrated. Something about it was just disappointing. Maybe playing the Oracles first ruined it since they're so similar. And I think both Oracle games are ultimately superior to LA in every single way.

Link's Awakening is overall a very good game though. Every game in the series I've played is a 8/10 or higher I'd say.

Honestly I think the only zelda games I've liked are 1, 2, Link's Awakening, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild. I've played all the 3D ones and everything 2D other than Link Between World's and the Oracle games.

The rest aren't really bad, they're just bland or have mechanics that don't jive with me. Like I really enjoy Majora's Mask in nearly every respect but the time thing can get really tedious and it keeps me from playing it again
