Agreed. Not saying it was perfect but the revolution brought about a significantly good change in Cuba and accomplished a lot of good, such as spreading literacy to 10 million+ people around the globe. Even today Cuba has the most doctors per capita of any country in the world, has cured the transfer of HIV/AIDS from mother to fetus, and sponsors the education of aspiring doctors in outside countries if they pledge to serve underprivileged communities lacking in healthcare.

The embargoes placed on the nation by imperialist countries are a real shame. Who knows what sort of prosperity Cuba could have brought to the world if not for them.

I mean it's pretty obvious Cuba got fucked over by our perpetual hateboner for them. I think people forget how much small countries around the world get and got exploited by larger countries. If you don't cooperate then you get sanctioned to hell, like Iran, Cuba and Venezuela

Yeah we really fucked over Venezuela by uh... being their largest trading partner.

The Fact that Cuba is still successful after years of heavy embargoes and sanctions is amazing. They also have some of the lowest rates of Covid in the world even compared to other small countries

Their economic plan at the time relied heavily on sugar cane and having the US as a trade partner, so yes, cutting off trade with them did hurt.

Though humanity's issues all tend to go back to politicking and that exists regardless of the economic system used.

One of the foundations of Capitalism is Free Trade. Free Trade gets you the higher standards of living and lower costs on consumer goods of South Korea, while general isolationist protocols on markets, borders, and trade give you the rat race to the bottom that is North Korea lol.

Sweden is an island and they're doing terribly. the philippines is a bunch of islands and they're also doing terribly. Japan is a bunch of islands and they're also doing terribly

there might be some correlation elsewhere between "islands" and "countries that are dealing with covid-19 well" but it's extremely stupid to suggest that as a causal factor when the evidence does not actually support the idea
