Christmas has been over for well over a month but some residents are having trouble parting ways as they STILL have their DECORATIONS and LIGHTS lit up daily but they claim it's to provide some comfort during this pandemic..but others says it's INSANE!!

The recent snowstorm that blew through the northeast united states provided them a chance to see their holiday decor shine calling it a "White Christmas" but it has others annoyed

James Zogby is one who posted a picture of his decorations lit up and said "i love my christmas lights in the snow. i left them up, just hoping for a chance to see them this way and voila!"

Jude Redfield from Kentucky said "Feel free to judge all you want, i don't care. I kept my christmas light sup just for a night like this"

But some had enough as 31 y/o Sara Pasccuci in Long Island received a letter from neighbors asking her to remove the decorations from her yard put up by her late father who died of COVID-19

She is one of 3 residents who reported receiving notices that said "Take your Christmas lights down! It's Valentine's Day!!!"

But she said she was stunned by the letter as they are still mourning the loss of her father, 61 y/o Anthony writing in a post that he died on January 15th from COVID-19 as well as her aunt, 70 y/o Connie

She said "My father ended up going to the hospital because he couldn't breathe. They ended up having to put the ventilator and he passed on January 15th"

She works as a receptionist at a dermatologist's office and said the lights have great sentimental value and said "I thought it was somebody trying to be funny but considering the circumstances we didn't really find it funny. It was actually very hurtful."

Sara lives with her brother and aunt who all contracted covid-19 on christmas eve but since recovered.

Lori Kelly, another area resident also got the letter as her husband recently injured his back and they decided to leave the light son as she said "Mind your own business, you know. This is my property so if i want to leave my christmas lights on all year long, i will. Love outweighs the hate"

Do you think it's time to let these christmas lights go considering it's February?.

There are numerous houses in my neighborhood that leave their lights up all year and I love it.

It's weird, but so what if it is? If you can't tolerate someone doing something harmless, then the harmful behavior in need if reprimand is your own intolerance.

The lights are okay since theyre just colored lights. Should put away the other decorations though.

It's pretty stupid. The holiday's over, get over it. Isn't it enough that the "season" has crept all the way to Nov. 1 now?
Yeah, they can do it, nothing to get outraged over. But I do think it's dumb.

It wouldn't bother me, but don't a lot of cities have ordinances on how long you can have lights up? At least they do around here, but I guess that's Illinois for you...

Squirrels took care of ours.

As long as the homeowners can afford the bill for the electricity needed to keep the lights on, it doesn't bother me but the inflatables they should probably take down if only so that a squirrel or some animal doesn't rip holes in them. They might want to use those decorations next year.

The full-on Christmas decor is kind of weird, but keeping lights up well into the new year is becoming pretty common. There are lots of people that feel that the time leading up to Christmas (specifically, as days get shorter) is vastly more pleasant than the other side of the solstice purely because people put up lights to make the world less dark and dismal. There's a whole lot of winter left between "Christmas is done" and "the entire non-work part of my day is dark," and having a bunch of extra lights around helps to make that a bit more cheerful. This seems to be especially prevalent this year, where it's been a pretty miserable year and Christmas for a lot of people, so people are just embracing and spreading small joys wherever they can find them.

Really, even if I don't particularly like how a given display looks or think it's odd, complaining about it doesn't seem remotely reasonable to me. I am never going to give somebody a hard time for trying to make my life a little bit brighter. Nobody should ever do that. The only time Christmas lights should be considered objectionable is if they cause a significant amount of light pollution for neighbours, in which case the solution is not "take your lights down," it's "can you please reorganize your lights so they don't shine directly into my bedroom all night?".
