I've seen plenty of people who worked retail or fast food turn around and treat the workers like shit because "I suffered then, now I get to be the shitty customer."

Agreed. It helps you build your social skill level and appreciate other human beings for the smiles that they give you when you serve them.

Doing a 6 hour probability midterm exam on a saturday builds character.

That's lame. If and when I ever leave my retail job, I'll become the customer who shits on other customers acting out of line because I've been in the employee's shoes before.

I have no idea what that guy is on about, most former retail workers sympathize with retail workers if anything, they don't treat them like shit.

True!

It's almost always the older/boomers that treat people like shit.

It's not the worst thing, and you may know better than most of the things you'll find yourself faced with, but there's a difference of knowing by principal, and knowing by experience.

I mean yeah, if you got a proper salary job with benefits straight out of school, obviously go for it. I didn't struggle-struggle growing up, but that uncomfortable space of having a retail job and sitting on my degree. Definitely instilled a "life is on pause" feeling.

You have no idea what I mean when I say that I've seen plenty of people turn around and be shitty? You even admit that just "most" former retail workers turn out sympathetic. You know that means that some of them turn out shitty, right?

This was typically my experience working food service in college. People my age were polite, but if someone was going to be an entitled cow, it was going to be a boomer. I worked at a coffee shop and there was one old hag whose response to "Hi, how are you today?" was "Skinny latte." Old ladies and middle aged men were the worst. I had a dude stomp to the front of the line and GROWL at me that his smoothie was "inedible" while we were slammed with customers.
