The game was originally being made with Basche as the main character and then they switched leadership in the middle of development and Vaan was added. It's why there is no character development for the player team.

It's really terrible, but that's par for the course for Final Fantasy.

But yeah, a shoe-horned in pretty boy main character who has no bearing at all on the plot; instead of either the princess trying to save her kingdom or the knight sworn to protect her. One of the most idiotic progression systems they ever devised where you need to pay skill points for every single item upgrade, rather than perhaps just a tier of hats or something. Some MMO-like fun moments of badass level 50 juggernauts wandering the level five zone.

It's funny how many people complained that the game played itself. It really didn't--but it did pave the way for FF13 which did play itself. I mainly used it to automate buffing up and healing after combat.

I don't know. When I played it, I felt like a botter because I just ran my characters everywhere at 2 or 4 x speed and my characters would just wipe out everything, heal and buff themselves, ect. I only manually fought combat against the bosses. It was an interesting system I suppose, final fantasy the idle game.

ff12 is definitive trash because it could not compare in any way shape or form w ES: oblivion

ok not trash but garbage. Level grinding and the old methods at their worst. While open world games (is actual rpgs) were coming to consoles ff12 stayed mired in outdated (even at that time) Repetative gameplay and level grinding that was old gem consoles at their worst.

The Archades bit was weird.

So many zones you have to travel through to get there and even traveling through the city itself is an obstacle.

In other words, there's a lot of time invested into making it to the top of Draklor Laboratory.

And what's the big reward? Dr. Cid telling you to meet him at the Great Crystal.

I originally played it on PS2 and hated it. But I grabbed it for switch end of 2019 and played it last year and the improvements in Zodiac Age helped me like the game more but it's still not one of my favorites. I did actually beat it finally though.

13 played itseld as much as 7 did considering all i did in 7 was mash the attack command and heal as needed. But in 13 i mashed the "auto" command and switch paradigms on a regular basis. So really 7 played itself more

I remember trying the demo of 12 and not liking it one bit...so I never gave the game a try. There was nothing about my experience in the demo I really enjoyed.

Considering i actually had to do more in 13s battles i stand by my statement. If you just mash auto battle and nothing else in 13 you will lose. The ps1 era final fantasys where among the easiest in the series with only 15 maybe being easier.

The way i felt aboyt the story was it was more about the politics and gods than it was about the characters, they where secondary when it came to the plot.

As far as game play i feel its the best turn based/atb whatever theyve done as it taught me I didnt dislike turn based nearly as much as i disliked random battle encounters. I guess a mix between it and chromo trigger would have been better. Where when you do run up on a enemy you get locked into combat and it turns into a typical atb battle just without a screen transition
