Do you enjoy getting paid 10x less than what you make for your employer?

Because no matter what your job is, they're not paying you your true worth. This goes for even the lowest level positions.

I'm in a small democratic group that shares profits among other docs

profits are based off of billable RVU

RVU very closely tied to hours

60 hrs in my field a week isn't really sustainable though I'd be making more than a million per year if I did

pretty happy with my 36 hrs/week

anyway I can't actually answer your question since we are employees as well as owners with a democratically elected leader that rotates

EDIT: I was kind of curious about my own flamboyant claim of 1 mil and actually ran the numbers. At 60 hrs a week it would be just over 900k. But again, no one chooses to work that much in EM

He was my employer, so yeah I think its pretty relevant lol. I frequently worked over 46 hours a week there to get OT, and if he made over 10x more than me, more power to him.

I dont usually work long hours any more but i am really glad i did when i was younger

Early 20s id usually go 7am-7pm

Got me a bunch of promotions and 5 figure raises every year. Not so much because i was punching in/out late, more just that i got so much more done

Anyways it's stupid to talk shit about others' work ethics

If someone wants to do the minimum and not get big raises/advance their careers, that is fine

Working hard for more money is no less valid of a life choice than clocking out early to watch your animes

My emploer never paid anyone a tenth of his salary. I know. I did the payroll. As for hours, maybe blame the people taking more than a 40 hour week leaving less work for others more than the employer. Again, my place hated overtime and rather have had 3 at 40 than 2 at 60. Shame we were always short staffed because people weren't jumping to work in the field.

I'd argue that a lot of people in the corporate world aren't too important for the company. They can not show up to work and no one would even notice. Hell sometimes things go better because they're an obstacle.

Lower wage ones tend to be lower wage because it's so easy to replace them.

I'd argue that the most underpaid are the experienced hourly workers. There are some that are absolutely pivotal to the day to day, and have so much tribal knowledge they can't be replaced. Most overpaid are the guys who just show up and talk in meetings all day, and make bad decisions.

Who is coercing them? Not the employer.

Work is naturally necessary for survival until farms learn to farm themselves. Are bears slaves because they need to forage for food?

Nature is coercing the system. Life isnt free.

People have to work just like any living thing does. If there is consent to the terms of that work, it isnt slavery.

Why cant you just argue a sane position?

"Society would benefit if workers had more bargaining power"

Comparing the modern economy to actual slavery is absurd and downplays the horror of real slavery

Calling yourself a slave while enjoying all the comforts of modern society is an insult to the people who actually suffered through real adversity.
