My parents were terrible spenders and when I moved out, I found myself being totally clueless about money and being the same way. High rent for my income because I wanted a nice place, spending on clothes and makeup and racking up credit card debt while just paying minimum payments (while not really understanding that I was paying more money to borrow it), etc. It wasnt until I met my husband who pointed those things out to me and helped me understand better that I was able to change those habits. Flat out said we werent getting married until my debt was cleared and worked with me on it.
