I only ever hear the word staunch used when someones saying Hes a staunch Republican.I've only heard it used as a staunch defender/believer. Also disgruntled. Probably the only time I heard it not used to describe a postal worker was from The Simpsons when Homer said "That's it! Now I'm disgruntled!
