So .. ultimately is this going to crash the market?

Just wondering if I need to pull money from my non meme stonks
Probably not, especially since the government seems to be intervening.

Tbh if seeing minor losses over the week stresses you put, you should probably make it a rule to not check your portfolio often.

Lol, email from robinhood

An update on market conditions

,
Its been a tough day, and were grateful to you for being a Robinhood customer. In light of the extraordinary market conditions this week, we temporarily limited buying for certain securities this morning. Starting tomorrow, we plan to allow limited buys of these securities. Well continue to monitor the situation and may make adjustments as needed.
This was a temporary decision made to best continue serving you, and was not an easy one to make. We know its led to frustration and confusion, and wanted to provide some clarity.
As a brokerage firm, we have many financial requirements, including SEC net capital obligations and clearinghouse deposits. Some of these requirements fluctuate based on volatility in the markets and can be substantial in the current environment. These requirements exist to protect investors and the markets and we take our responsibilities to comply with them seriously, including through the measures we have taken today.
To be clear, this decision was not made on the direction of any market maker we route to or other market participants.
The past year in particular has shown us that the financial markets are for everyonenot just institutional investors and hedge funds. Weve seen a new generation enter the market, and theyre sparking conversations about what it means to be an investor. We stand in support of you, our customers. Democratizing finance for all means giving more people access, not less.
Well keep monitoring market conditions and will update this Help Center article with the latest changes. We also published a blog post regarding todays events.
Thank you again for being a Robinhood customer. Were so grateful for your support.

Be careful with taxes doing this. Might be best to eat the $75 fee.

It's either regular income or capital gains if you've held it for a year. So whichever tax brackets you'd fall into based on income.

Idk if anyone knows this but I only profited like $50 from all this. I have yet to cash out anything and still have a few hundred in the portfolio on RH.

Is there tax that has to be paid on that $50 if I cash out? Or is there like a profit minimum threshold where you don't actually get taxed?

Any gains realized from the sale of a stock will be a taxable event, if you held under a year... it is your income tax rate, if you help over a year, it is capital gains

Probably nothing. Capital gains on very large amounts short term is 34% Max so 34% of that 50 profit.

But I hear the taxes are even less in small amounts of profit

Gains from the sale of securities are treated as income when realized and are taxed accordingly (rate varies depending upon the characterization of the security).

It depends on your income level + either of these (short term means higher rate btw)

Long term capital gains tax = stock owned for 1 year and a day or longer <-----0% tax penalty if you make less than 40k/year
Short term capital gains tax = stock owned for < 1 year

Short Term is 34% and Long Term is 20%

These are far very large amounts of income though. I think the percentages are less on lower amounts of income and profit

Man, the best good faith reading I can give them is that they didn't want to be blamed by the public if GME came crashing down and retail investors on robinhood got left bag holding heavily
