...The Righteous Gemstones is still on hiatus....

...The Righteous Gemstones had gotten through two days of filming. Then everything shut down. It is nearly the inverse of the story of how Goodmans role on Gemstones came to be. Days after Roseannes 2018 finale, ABC officially canceled the series following Roseanne Barrs racist remarks about Obama-era aide, Valerie Jarrett. Suddenly, right as one gig ended, Goodman was offered the role of Eli Gemstone on Danny McBrides HBO comedy, The Righteous Gemstones. Goodman recalls the news, adding, I said, 'Well, what the hell, I might as well take it. It's a great script.'"...

...They do a lot of flimflammery and whatnot, Goodman says of his characters family, and they're very, very well off at the expense of other people, but they do have faith. But during the filming of that first season down in Charleston where Gemstones shoots, he got the call that despite the cancellation of Roseanne, ABC wanted to give The Conners a green light: he and Laurie Metcalf would front the series...

... Once the season ends, Gemstones will resume its production and then for a moment, Goodman will have a bit of time to relaxat least as much as one can right now.,.

Same. My only worry was that they might completely subvert Christianity, however, as a Christian, I approve 100% of the season 1 finale.

I just liked the family dynamic, the framework doesn't matter as much.

However, coming from a religoius family (my mom's side of the family runs a fairly large congregation/synagogue, my grandfather, and now my uncle is the head rabbi), the series strikes very close to home and is a lot more accurate than I would like to admit.

As a Christian, I agree although I was never a member of any mega church. I always went to medium to small sized churches. I did go to a few camps/seminars that felt similar to the Gemstones tho lol.

The congregation is only a few hundred members strong in a really well to do area, but there was certainly an air of (for lack of better words) "royalty" about them. Even when we flew down to visit and attended services, my family was treated like visiting dignitaries by the members. It was super weird and super offputting.

Yeah, I think our church was even smaller, but I did occasionally go to some of the bigger churches in the area that were about that size. I also played bass in the church band for a few years lol.
