I don't think anybody is actually making this argument. I think you invented this argument in your head and are now trying to present it as some sort of meaningful gotcha because you think you're clever.

Why? Because for your argument even work the people complaining would have to had at least spent time in jail and served their term. Thus "paying" for their crimes and then complaining that other people did not have to fully pay for theirs.

This is the exactly the argument being made: What do I get for my good behavior, if they're going to improve society by changing stuff?
