Tough one. I've voted Tidus. I know he gets a lot of hate, but X is one of my top favourites and I do feel he gets a lot of character development along the way.

Same. CE has a hardon for all things FF7. Cloud is a gaslighting poopyhead. He was never SOLDIER first class, among other things.

Cecil, for me. Starting as a Dark Knight, and then literally "fighting" yourself to class change into a Paladin is epic shit.

Runner up is Ramza for being a goody two-shoes who cares for his sisters and understands that the end doesn't justify the means. Who is the only character in the game who can clock in at 97 faith (everyone else caps at 94 else they'll "find God" and leave the party forever) while also having female MA and the innate ability to equip Excalibur. Excalibur grants auto-haste and the ability to absorb Holy damage, meaning he will always act first and can CT5Holy with reckless abandon to OHKO about 90% of the battles.

Cloud is gonna win this easy but Im going with Zidane. I just liked him more, he seems a lot more idk, realistic? Level-headed perhaps? Lot more upbeat to contrast to moodiness of the previous two protags

I feel that the remake and Dissidia NT did him a lot of justice. Not every appearance has him being AC level. Even then I'd argue that Cloud's personality and reaction to everything happening in AC is justified, and the problem is that KH took his AC personality without any of the context behind it and tried to peddle it as his default personality.

I've never really thought about it, but I don't really like any of the main characters after FF6. This came down to Cecil or Terra/Celes. A hard question for me was worst protagonist because there are so many I absolutely hate.

Picture it: The World of Ruin happens. As Celes, Edgar, and Setzer triumphantly take to the skies, invade Kefka's tower and defeat him/save the world, the protagonist of the game, Locke, is still just twiddling his goddamn thumbs in the phoenix cave.

Picture this, Locke doesn't exist. Terra gets recaptured by the Empire before meeting any Returners and Celes is executed in South Figaro. World gets destroyed by Kefka at worst or conquered by Gestahl at best.
