UBI is financially unfeasible and we as a culture don't act like we'd still get out and do needed jobs without the threat of starvation making us. I'd like it, but we aren't ready for it.

Why should people that dont work be paid?

Instead of raising the min wage to 15 they should leave at 7 and UBI the rest up to 15. This way people are working, businesses pay employees and the government pays the rest.

Last time I did the math (2015 or 17, I think), just plain giving $12000 a year to every adult citizen, given revenue from the previous year, would still leave $800 or 900 billion for everything else.

What's the point of UBI, if that alone won't change the status of the poverty rate.
Homeless people will still be homeless, cities will continue to struggle making temporary shelters for homeless people...
Low income individuals will still live in crappy/deteriorating homes or inside their old beat up cars/RV's

I'd like for some sort of implementation, but the well has already been poisoned enough that I don't expect it for a long time if ever.

There are people doing just that right now. I'm not saying it would be everyone or even close to it, but some folks absolutely would work just cause they need something to do.

UBI is enough to survive as a working class person. Your average middle class and above person will need more than UBI, thats the idea.

The "no one would work" excuse is tired. Let's say in theory, they decide to give people 12k per year in basic income. Show me where you can live, pay utilities, eat and live off of $1,000 a month? You can't, unless you don't move out of your parents house. Chances are, a lot of those people living at their parents house aren't working anyway, or working part-time or minimum wage.

I like working, I own my home, I make closer to 90k a year, the boost would be nice but i'm sure as hell not gonna quit my job and let the government float me. Most people who are working, chances are they make more now than what universal basic income would provide, and don't want to give that up either.

Respectfully, there are a lot of people out there working shit jobs, because they didn't strive to do anything more with themselves, but that doesn't mean they should be spit on and kicked down. Give them help, let them experience a life not living pay check to pay check because all they are qualified to do is run a cash register or be a server at a restaurant. Some of these people work 60+ hours just so their family can eat.

But again, I think it's a pipe dream and UBI will never happen. I'll happily eat crow otherwise.

People can easily live off UBI by just combining it with other individuals be they friends, family, or even just strangers. So that 12k jumps to 24k, then 36k, and so on. They also each qualify for benefits as well. So SNAPS, foot stamps, section 8 housing and so on.

A good number of them may work still but maybe just part time.

They're also conveniently ignoring the fact that a lot of people are forced to pack in like sardines just to live right now. How often do you see heartless "intellectuals" scoff that you should "get a roommate" if you can't afford an apartment on your own? Then they wonder why millennials aren't having kids.

Isnt that income bracket also the most obese? They must be eating a hell of alot more in calories daily then what a can of sardines can provide.

Aside from that humans tend to follow the path of least resistant in life. So if bunking together with 3-5 roommates is easier then trying to solo it.....they likely will more often then not.
