They use the same weapons/fighting styles and in the Japanese version Croceo's Amber Whirl move is called Velvet Nightmare, which was the name of Yazoo's gun.

Yeah, most of my complaints about the game are technical. Could do with less tight crevices but it wasn't a big deal.

The current gen of consoles would fix that and the horrible texture resolution, so I'm really hoping they design it for this gen first. It would definitely be a system seller.

yeah man, square pulled it off somehow despite over a decade of them convincing me they were going to fumble it HARD. instead it fires on all cylinders.

Listening through the Soundtrack the last couple days. These probably aren't my favorite tracks since I am certain I am forgetting a couple. Plus haven't listened through the Soundtrack Plus all the way.

• Smash 'Em, Rip 'Em - almost too cheesy but also just really enjoyable to listen to. random exotic noises and then the melody of Tifa's theme suddenly bursts in, and then later you have the battle them swoop in for a quick second. and then random jpop noises. it's great.
• Tifa's Theme - Seventh Heaven - just a great update to the original. I've always been partial to Tifa's Theme, though I think in the end Aerith's Theme is my favorite in the original game. Aerith's Theme gets a nice orchestral update in this game too but it's not as refreshing as Tifa's update.
• Let the Battles Begin! - A Merc's Job - another perfect update to the original. adds a lot of bombast and OOMPH to a track i've listened to for hundreds of hours as a kid. my favorite part is about a minute in when the violins swing in from above to counter the melody. the original was fine but i never really loved it. this is a different story.
• I also love that a lot of the bosses also get different riffs of the battle theme. Abzu, Hell House, Crab Warden,
• The Airbuster - This is a decent boss battle theme in the original game that sounds like the Uematsu's Black Mages group went hard into redoing. I don't think that's actually what happened but man i miss when the Black Mages was the brand new hip thing in FF music.
• Let the Battles Begin! - The Hideout - LOVE LOVE LOVE this hushed version of the battle theme. i already pointed it out earlier in this topic but it really stood out as a "that's a really cool take on an old track" while I was playing the game.
• Due Recompense - what a stupid song but also really catchy, and it's impressive what they managed to do with what was essentially a joke track in the original game.
• Daughter's Farewell - an unexpected and neat arrangement of Barret's theme. just like Barret in this game, surprisingly sweet.
• Scarlet's Theme - it's just hilarious to me they gave her a theme and made it a full VOCAL TRACK.
• Rufus Shinra - just good, blood-pumping battle music.

I also like that they gave Jessie her own theme but I wish it wasn't so plain.

The Jenova theme in phase 3 is fucking killer, and definitely my favourite song from the game. That said, there are so many good songs, we definitely got spoiled.

So wait, if Sephiroth's goal is to break free of "destiny" and redo his plan from FF7, why is he made of and/or in control of the whispers? The whispers spent the entire game trying to keep everything exactly the same as OG FF7.

Like I get if it was his plan to have Cloud and co. do his bidding and kill destiny, but he is clearly more connected to the whispers than that. He explodes into whispers when Cloud hits him, he created/called forth the dimension of whispers, etc. And in that dimension are the whisper forms of the triplets, which he takes control of in Advent Children.

My guess is that he was brought back as a sort of enforcer of fate by the whispers (like the AC triplets) and then he broke free of their control somehow or something. So he still has whisper powers but he's not working for fate.

But honestly it was probably just to look cool and it will never be explained.
