Hated the motion controls for that game. A lot of them can't be done sitting or laying on a sofa
The game was designed to be played standing up, which is dumb as the game is really long.

Just so you know TC, you can trick the game into thinking your standing, when you're not, which will be necessary against enemies who block based on the direction you're holding your Wii remote, as you need to spin in the opposite direction to circumvent their defense. It's been a very long time, but I think you do this by, for example, holding the Wii remote to your right (so the enemy is blocking right), then flicking the remote towards your backside to spin in the opposite direction (in this case, clockwise), to hit the enemy on their left.

I've never had a problem playing the game while sitting upright. I don't get the argument that it needs to be played standing up.

I haven't played in a few days, but I've made it to the 5th dungeon. The sand sea part is incredible, definitely the peak of the entire game.

I just finished the 5th dungeon. It was really long, holy smokes.

Definitely the best dungeon yet, but the boss design is such a hilarious buzzkill. I stand by the description I've always had for it. It's the offspring of Mike Wazowski and his girlfriend from Monsters Inc. Decently fun boss, though.

The biggest downside to the dungeon was the sheer amount of backtracking. The second biggest downside was the reward for beating the boss. The sword turned white and now allows you to dowse for other items, lmao. That's it.

I can remember the next dungeon not being as good. I think the best of this game has passed. We'll find out.

Is the next one the second fire one? I think I remember liking that one. Though I don't remember really hating any of them. The last dungeon is a really cool concept too, albeit a little undercooked, not unlike other 3D Zelda game dungeons.

Yeah, it is. I just remember finding the item boring, and the boss disappointing.

I've progressed quite a bit since I last posted.

The Silent Realm for Death Mountain nearly got me. The last tear I collected was on a hill with a bunch of those pools that wake the guardians if you touch them. I narrowly avoided touching the pools as I slid down the hill.

The escort mission right before the sixth dungeon was fucking miserable. It had no purpose other than "fuck you".

The sixth dungeon itself was okay. The boss, while a lazy rehash, was still pretty fun. I originally found it disappointing because I was expecting something new, rather than just Ghirahim all over again.

The second Imprisoned fight wasn't as tough as I remembered. Still not very fun, though.

The cutscene with Zelda explaining how she's Hylia reborn, and then creating the Master Sword, was actually really good. I used to think it was kind of thrown in, but it held some weight for me this time. I don't know why.

The Levias miniboss was pretty great.

The Death Mountain part of the Song of the Hero quest was fucking annoying. I don't have an issue with a change of pace in a game, but only if it's fun. This straight up wasn't. Same with the Forest part. In the Forest, the third Imprisoned fight was by far the hardest fight yet. I nearly died against it. I found a video after I beat it showing how to do it with zero damage. Probably should have done that method instead. Also, with the rest of the Forest part, the Water Dragon admits that you've more than proved yourself as the hero, yet makes you do a long, arbitrary underwater fetch mission? That makes zero sense. Somehow, it wasn't as bad as the Death Mountain part, though.

The Desert part of the Song of the Hero quest was the best of the three, but still nothing special. Right now, I'm at the part where you can play the Thunder Dragon's minigame to get the Hylian Shield. I keep dying after like 3 rounds though, I'm pretty rusty with The Horde boss and Ghirahim 3. I might give it a few more attempts before I say "screw it" and just finish the game. I know there isn't much left to do.

Yeah, like I said in the last comment, the Song of the Hero quest was brutal for padding.

I'm still working on getting the Hylian Shield. Twice now I've died in the 8th and final round, lol. Super frustrating. My second attempt I decided to start with The Horde and somehow through a miracle managed to beat it with no damage. But then in the 8th round I somehow lost the 10 hearts I had left against Ghirahim 2.

I remember getting the Hylian shield on my first try.
It started horribly but somehow I managed to prevail.
I pretty much never used a shield before I got the Hylian shield.
IIRC there were some parts requiring a shield and those were the only times I used one.

Well, it took nearly a month, but I've finished it. And it just so happens that Nintendo announced a remaster for Switch today, lol. But I'm impressed that I stuck through it.

The last dungeon was a cool concept but WAY too short and easy. The very final boss was tougher than I remembered, I died a few times against it, always in the second half.

As someone else mentioned earlier, this is very much a game of highs and lows. The lows greatly outnumbered the highs. I will not be getting the Switch remaster, as the game really doesn't offer enough to justify buying it a second time just with higher resolution graphics and button controls. In fact, I'd say the motion controls were excellent for the most part.

It's hard to give the game a score. There are parts that are 4/10. There are other parts that are 9/10. Nothing really sticks out, either.

Anyway, I might try to finish some sidequests. I only have 16 hearts, maybe I'll look to find the others.

When the announcement hit earlier today, I immediately thought about how you called it. Well played.

I don't know if I still would have been motivated to play this by the time it comes out in July. I had a feeling of "okay, let's get this done" last month that I needed to act on if replaying this was something that was ever going to be done.

Yeah. The wait would have possibly made you lose interest. I only knew because of that one specific tweet. And I wish I could find it again. Plus, it was the only one not remade/ported yet. But its all good. I am excited for it, though...

I like Skyward Sword but as someone who didn't have too many issues with the controls it just doesn't look like it's going to be different enough to interest me. I've played all these old Zelda games so much that I don't think I'd rebuy any (and maybe not even replay the ones I have) unless they were full-fledged remakes

I liked Skyward Sword more than Breath of the Wild so I think I might pick up the Switch version.
Open world games like BotW aren't quite my cup of tea.
I prefer slightly smaller scoped games like Mario Odyssey.
That's pretty much where I draw the line for how big a game world can be.

I finished finding all the heart pieces. I found a few on my own, but I had to look up the last two (drawing on a sacred wall for the Goron archaeologist guy, and one you had to dig underground to find outside the Fire Sanctuary).

That gave me 18 hearts. The other two hearts are from the Life Medals, which always were sent straight to storage when I found them. That was kind of disappointing.

I'd say I'm done now. I could finish the Gratitude Crystal sidequest, but the final reward isn't worth it.

Skyward Sword is easily the worst 3D Zelda, but it did have some high moments. It's a better game than the NES Zeldas and the DS Zeldas, as well as being better than Four Swords Adventures, but that's about it. Calling it "bottom tier" is a bit harsh, but it's certainly in the bottom half of all Zelda games. There was a lot of wasted potential, and so much handholding, gameplay stalling, and general padding (the BIGGEST offender there was the literal entire Song of the Hero quest). Hopefully the remaster fixes some of the annoyances, but I don't think they're going to reduce the padding. I won't be paying full price for it either way.

Four Swords Adventures is a pretty awesome game.

But only if you play with friends.
Playing that game alone is kinda boring as most of the fun comes from the pure chaos when playing with four players.

Yeah, that's probably what I missed out on with that game.

I played the GBA Four Swords with friends many years ago, but I didn't get the GameCube Four Swords Adventures game until a couple years ago. I've only ever played it solo.

That one was hard to play with friend since you needed the GBA adapter for GameCube...

My friends and I went out of our way to get 4 GBA to GC cables and, man, playing Four Swords Adventure was one of the best memories I have with my high school friends. Super Mario 3D World gave me the same vibe as FSA with the competitive co-op nature of it. You have to work together to complete the levels but you can dick around and screw each other over as much as you want.
