Health officials are responding to a probable case of community transmission of Covid-19 in Northland.

The Covid-19 Response Minister, Chris Hipkins along with the Director-General of Health, Ashley Bloomfield will be holding a press conference at 4.00pm at the Beehive.

The New Zealand Herald is reporting that the case is related to someone recently released from managed isolation and quarantine.

Yay, here we go again. >_>

Although violations have occurred, in this case the problem is that the way our quarantine is being run is piss-poor and full of weaknesses. The majority - maybe all - leaks in NZ's system have not been due to breaches, but due to poor procedure.

The only case I can think of in NZ that was confirmed as due to a breach was a person back in June who escaped from a quarantine facility, wandered around a major city for a while, before being caught and later testing positive - but by sheer luck he didn't infect anyone. That aside, the major August outbreak is still officially "unknown origin".

They're pretty cruisy, from what I've heard.

It's a real mixed bag. Half of them are real lame like "Northland", the other half sound crazy to non-NZers like "Waikikamukau*".

*not actually real, but plenty that are similar to this

Wow. So check this out. In the press conference (linked above) they keep saying, under pressure from a journalist, that they "won't release the locations visited by the case until they've spoken to the business owners".

Then later last night, they just drop a list... without speaking to all of the owners. So the only thing they did by refusing to declare them at the conference... was delay people knowing if they might've been exposed by about 6 hours or so.

( Source: https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/300213373/covid19-business-owners-visited-by-new-case-not-contacted-by-ministry )

I know this all seems miniscule by international standards, but by NZ standards this shit is fucking infuriating.
