Haven't seen vrains or seven but 5Ds is the best of what I've seen although I prefer the original for nostalgia.

Vrains is boring and tried to recapture the more mature vibe of 5D's but failed horribly. Also, Links were a terrible idea and ruined the game.

Sevens has been a garbage anime so far, but at least it hasn't damaged the real-life TCG at all. The biggest problem from the Vrains era was reversed too.

How?

IIRC the first season of GX was fairly standard school adventures with the not-quite-Egyptian God Cards in the background, and then in later seasons there's aliens and different dimensions and all sorts of wacky shit.

As dumb as it was, the CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES!! concept still worked surprisingly well. Plus the show had enough master duels to go along with the speed duels that it balanced out and still had enough for the people who weren't as big a fan of the gimmick.

The early part of the Arc-V era (when Pendulum monsters were introduced but the Performapal archetype wasn't insanely powerful yet) was a lot of fun for the TCG too. Every single summoning type was viable at the time in some way, shape, or form, which led to a lot of variety in the game. Even Fusions (with Heros and Gem-Knights) and Rituals (with Gishki and Nekroz) were pretty good.
