Yeah, that whole sequence was so bizarre. Teens just going apeshit trying to kill each other. I always wondered if Daniel and Johnny just never taught their students proper application of force or what. Karate, as practiced originally by the Okinawans was about hurting/killing people. But...you don't have to immediately jump to that. The level of force you use if some skank is trying to steal your boyfriend is not the same level of force you would use if say someone was trying to kill you.

i've only seen tkk 1 (over a dozen times) and there's some pretty over the top kid violence sure

but to have 15-20 kids literally attempt to murder each other, in public, with zero interference is way too fucking jarring

i cannot get past it for the life of me. it shipped my suspension of disbelief to mars

Yes and no. You beat the ever loving shit out of that first skank bad enough and future skanks will think twice before fucking around. Thus a net gain; one skank got their ass beat spectacularly enough to save future skanks from getting a taste of the same. Beat one skank really really bad and you dont have to fight skanks on the reg

ce hasn't figured out that movies and tv shows are fiction and not documentaries. They get really angry when things happen because plot. This is a story where you can launch a successful car sales company based on winning a karate tournament 30 years ago. Which is far more unrealistic than kids having karate war in a school.

i'll take a "stupid" fight with the kids over watching middle age men struggle to lift their legs above their waist.

I mean I don't think it's out of the question to say that maybe LaRusso probably is just good at selling cars in general and uses his Karate Tournament credentials to help with marketing to the people in the valley. But yeah, a lot of the shit in the original Karate Kid movies could've easily been handled with the proper authorities like the police, but that would make for a very boring movie. Not everything has to be realistic and final seasons for television shows are always known to be "big" in general. I mean when I watch Karate Kid what I really am after is kids beating each other up and that's what I get when watching Cobra Kai, which just happens to have really good writing, humor, and character developments as major bonuses.

Even if that's what happened, which it isn't, it really isn't. You can launch a successful car business with even less notoriety than that!

It's not just about whether or not the cops could handle it. It's about how likely they would be to be involved at all. I got into plenty of fights with bullies at and around schools when I was younger without the cops getting involved. It's very believable that the lame ass new kid wouldn't want to call the cops on the rich cool kid gang. Unlike in cobra kai season 2, johnny never crane kicks ralph maccio in front of the principal where he'd obviously get in trouble for it.

right, like I don't understand how I'm just supposed to accept over a dozen kids (they're children) attempting to outright murder each other in broad daylight. for an extended duration. unimpeded.

it's not like cobra kai rolled up to daniel-san between classes and tried to stab him to death for twenty minutes.

it's just not the show season 1 told me it'd be.

also, they dragged out johnny vs daniel-san way too long. they should have buried the hatchet in season 1, each independently try to deal with kreese in season 2, ending with them becoming co-senseis. season 3 should have tread new ground

Of course you can, you still don't center your ads around something you did as a teenager 30 years ago. Think of all the awful car commercials you've seen across your life. You don't think any of those had a guy who peaked at varsity football and had one good game, yet, they know no one gives a fuck about it to make it the center of their gimmick.

the teachers try to break it up at the start and get shoved out. I don't know what more you want for a fictional tv show that wants a large fight for the sake of plot. There is hardly an episode in any of the 3 seasons of the show that makes sense. Season 3 certainly makes even less sense, but it's not like it ever made any to begin with. It's like queens gambit, everytime someone plays chase a crowd immediately appears to watch two randos play chess. That's never going to happen, but it makes the scenes look more dramatic and visually appealing so it happens.

Lol I dunno man, unique furniture in downtown jacksonville (Arkansas) has been running the same commercial for 20 years. I feel like I know plenty of ex small time jocks who can't let it go and still make it a part of their personality and therefore there endeavors. Really the least believable part about it is that it's karate.

Yeah my whole point is the show gets less believable as it goes on. I'm not making a comment on what I want, just the quality of the show. Season 1 has a whole episode dedicated to characterizing johnny as a person and his mindset so that they can justify him fighting some kids in a parking lot. in season 2 and 3, they don't really do that. As you say, it's obvious that stuff happens just because the show wants it to, without them dedicating the time to showing the viewer why

For those that don't care for uptick in violence, or think that it makes it less believable, lets not forget that it is also following the trend of the original trilogy.

In the first film it was semi believable but a bit excessive, like most teen movies in that era. In the second Daniel literally has to fight a dude to the death because he pissed a dude off and make him look bad. In the third film it gets so over the top that Barnes is literally going to murder Daniel by dropping him off a cliff if he doesn't agree to fight in the tournament.

Do I think it's silly and unnecessary? Sure. But it is keeping thematically with the progression of the movies.

That they did. I'm not saying I don't agree with the criticism, just that when taken in the context of the whole it's mirroring the films.

I mean Iron Eagle had a kid pull the oil cap off of another kid's prop plane so that he could win a bet on a race. Which is literally attempted murder.
