What should I set logic and action difficulty as as a first time player? I don't even know what action the game has. How difficult are the puzzles on the hardest difficulty? Late stage Professor Layton-level hard? Cause I don't think I could deal with that.

I'd say that Danganronpa is for the most part easier than the Ace Attorney series, even on Mean/Mean, and I'm pretty sure you get bonus Monocoins from completing Class Trials. Just don't put it on the lowest difficulty, as that will actively remove certain game mechanics.

In Trigger Happy Havoc, you can only change the difficulty by playing from Chapter Select, and you can only select up to the Class Trial you completed before whatever chapter you're on. So basically until you beat the game you have to recomplete the most recent Class Trial in order to get back to the chapter you started if you have to replay previous sections for any reason. Danganronpa 2 is more lenient than this, giving you Chapter Select checkpoints at the start of the newest chapter and at the start of Deadly Life as well. I dunno about V3 since I haven't played yet.

As for Hifumi's talent, he's more of a doujin author, so he probably has drawn porn lmao.

I just want to say that case 5 in 2 fucked me up bad. Why did Chiaki have to die. God fucking damn it.

One of the things that bugged me with the story is that Toko legit turns out to be a serial killer. Like, the entire premise of the game is "Oh no, killing is so terrible!" but meanwhile there's just a girl who's killed multiple people with them and it's no big deal lol.

My friend suggested that the writers explained it away with the ending that she was just a killer like everyone else in the world now, but like, weren't they all already locked away inside the school before the world went to shit?

Each game is longer than the one before. The first game is the shortest, Steam says my playtime was 25 hours, 2 was 31 hours, V3 is 36 hours.

I love the series, but the first game is generally regarded as the weakest (but still good, and also mandatory, story wise). I personally like V3 more than 2, but it's a very close second.

UDG is a completely different style of game (third person shooter). It like a spin off but it is canon, but you won't miss anything by skipping it. If you don't care about the gameplay you can just watch a video of all the cutscenes, as the story is pretty interesting.

It was released between 2 and 3 so I was thinking in case I like the first one enough to continue the series, I'd play it there since I like experiencing things in order of release.

Skills are used during class trials, which might not happen for a while depending on how fast you read. The one exception is that Celeste gives you a passive skill that triples Monocoin gains while exploring the school.

Reminder that V3 is not Danganronpa 3. If you plan on continuing the story after 2 and UDG, you need to watch the Danganronpa 3 anime. V3 is after the anime.

And on the subject of Free Time Events, always try to give whoever you're hanging out with a gift that they'll probably like (for example, Leon likes punk rock stuff and hates baseball stuff, Hifumi likes weeb shit, Aoi likes food, Celeste and Byakuya like expensive things, etc.) and always try to give a correct answer on your first try when they come up during FTEs. Just hanging out with a character won't guarantee you get a Free Time Event if you don't suck up to them enough!

About to start the first class trial. I'm really excited to see how it works, if it's similar to Phoenix Wright. The investigation certainly was. I genuinely have no clue who it is. The name written in blood seems to be misdirection like it always is in Phoenix Wright, but the use of a screwdriver points towards a male. Other than that I don't really know. Other clues that point to specific people seem very inconclusive at best.

Leon did nothing wrong up until the point at which she was locked in the bathroom. Which then he had to leave the room, go to his room, unpack his screwdriver, go back, unscrew the door, and stab her. Plenty of time to rethink killing her and possibly wake people up and tell them what happened.

I think you're applying real world self-defense logic too rigidly to the situation.

In the real world, yes, self-defense would not apply due to his calculated actions after. But in the confinement of the academy? What were they supposed to do with Sayaka? They can't just confine her to her room eternally. What kind of thoughts would be going through Leon's head at the moment? The fear of her (or anyone she might be in cahoots with) making a second attempt on his life? The breakdown of any faith he might be trying to uphold that they can all make it through alive, the paranoia that comes with that, etc. Who's to say he'd even be believed vs Sayaka herself if he just alerted everyone else? She was the one with the bruises of a sustained attack. I find his actions to be rather reasonable within the logic of Monokuma's scheme. He didn't even try it to pin it on anyone else like a normal Ace Attorney villain would. At least not in the moment. Everyone here is a victim, even the people who end up killing, due to the situation they are in. But Leon is moreso a victim than Sayaka. IMO.
