There's videos of him for the 80s and 90s saying he'd run if it got bad enough. It did.

But don't let that spoil your fun.

Nah. Dude has long talked about running and has gone through the motions of running before. We shouldn't perpetuate the myth that it was Obama that caused him to do this because that also gives credence to his lie that he won it on the first time.

I only brought it up because someone essentially claimed he didn't have any money. Sounds like something reasonable to bring up in defense of Trump. Usually people who need money would love to have a 400k salary.

He was hundreds of millions in debt, had lost like a billion dollars over the course of a decade, we've never fully seen his taxes and his entire persona was built on conning people into thinking he was an ultra successful businessman. Donating 400k so you can make millions off of forcing the government to pay you when you go to your business every other weekend and you con gullible rubes into donating to you for all your fights and court cases is a fucking no brainier. It's about the only smart business decision he's made in like 50 years.

I really don't think him donating the 400k would be a requirement for him accomplishing what you're alleging. I think he could have also taken the salary and accomplished what you described.

Either he has money or doesn't. That's essentially what it boils down to. A user insinuated he didn't have money, I replied.

The fact that you're using it to defend him is what he accomplished.

Why is this so hard for you?

Seems his grift worked on you then. That's why he donated the salary.

So does he have money or not? That's what I was originally replying to. It's obvious that he does, regardless of whether you think his income is right or wrong.

I'm not clear why you keep saying he'd take it *if* he needed money. As others have pointed out, the publicity of donating it to charity could be worth a lot more to him (and therefore the better choice if he does need money)

If that's the case, how did the publicity of him donating the salary earn him money? The specific publicity of it did? I don't think so.

A user pointed out "what money", implying he's broke. He's clearly not. Whether or not anyone wants to argue the integrity of the money he received is an entirely different discussion

Because it's literally the first thing Trump's supporters go to when he's criticized of using the office of the President to line his own pockets. Many of these same supporters gleefully give him their own money. It's all part of the grift.

My understanding was that while he had liquid and assets, he had a lot of debt that canceled much of it out. Link to the Forbes article ?
