I have a colleague. Lets call them Leslie Fakename. Theyre in a different team, but we work on the same projects sometimes.
They are constantly asking the same questions each week and making the same mistakes.

They send important emails directly and are allergic to CCing people, so you end up having to have the same conversation with half a dozen freaking people.

They have been in the same job for 30+ years, and this is basic bitch shit. Admittedly, not the basic bitch stuff thats the meat and potatoes of their role, but after 30 years you think youd be able to remember the answers to the same freaking questions.

Its gotten to the point that when Im working from home and start swearing, my wife asks Leslie Fakename again?
It almost always is.

Just found out, because they hadnt told my team a small but very important detail (and had told us something else entirely), a big portion major project we worked on last year has been potentially screwed up.

I dont know whether to be annoyed or horrified right now.

Oh god, it gets worse.

Im freaking out and waiting for my boss to see the trash fire unfolding in their emails.

My one consolation is its now obvious which team dropped the ball.

30+ years? So I'm guessing an older individual. Late 50s / early 60s.

I had the same problem when my old boss got to that age. Thought processes slowed down and they had trouble remembering processes they'd done and I'd explained a million times.

If you think that's the case it might be something to politely bring to HR, though if it is the case, you may not be the first.

Nah, I wouldnt do that. When theyre doing work thats completely in their lane, theyre an expert.

As infernally frustrating as they are, they are also just a lovely person.

Now, I had another coworker who was incompetent and an obnoxious bully. They almost got fired and immediately put in a workers comp claim. Over the time I worked with them, they made two of their supervisors quit (who both later returned after they left the company).

But yeah, their workers comp thing was around their eyes - they reckoned working in the office was giving them migraines that would last for days. They were off for a few months and ended up coming back part time.

Until another colleague had to use their computer one day and discovered the monitor was badly, badly out of focus.

They didnt have any problems after that.

Im actually pretty lucky though, everyone else is incredibly capable, extremely smart and very nice, particularly in my immediate team. Until this job I was usually one of the smartest people in the room, but Im quite ready to admit that in my current job thats definitely not the case.
