People who dont work white collar office jobs dont realize how much of an act it is. So much is placed on how many hours you are there. Ive had jobs I could easily get all my work done in 4 hours a day but would spend 10-12 hours a day in the office for appearances.

Good topic TC. Having worked in food service, retail, movie theater, on the road, and in office settings

Office setting is literally the easiest out of all of those, by quite a lot. And it pays the most and has better benefits. For no reason.

I've never worked retail/fast food, but goddamn I respect them for the amount of bs they put up with for not much money

Sure I only *worked* 3, maybe 4 hours out of an 8 hour shift, but depending on what you do theres a lot of downtime. I quoted prototype PCB's for clients and it can be a several week or month process, playing with numbers, tweaking build materials, sourcing parts, contacting board houses etc. And you seldom get immediate answers, there's a lot of back and forth and waiting.
But when you secure a $15m contract with the Royal Australian Navy for control modules on submarine targeting systems, the boss gives literally no shits that I was reading comic books half the day.

Difference being, most humans can walk in and do the fast food job after a day of training to decent success. Same can't be said for professional work, be it from tradesmen to executives, which is why they get paid more than a job anyone can do.
