Not really IMO. The gameplay mechanics are clunky as hell. The Island is pretty and all, and the premise is cool, but it gets very, very repetitive.

Dying Light is everything Dead Island wanted to be. I'd recommend that way, way more.

I didn't like it back in the day but I played it on gamepass and had a blast.

The big rapper guy is the op character.

I got most if my regular zombie kills with shoulder charge and head jump double stomp.

It's only ever been worth playing if you have a friend or two you can enjoy it with. Otherwise, it's a really, really bland ass game.

1) Looting becomes boring after the fourth piece of luggage you unzip. It feels like TSA Simulator at times.
2) The repair system is a pain in the ass. Your gear degrades over time, you repair it at workbenches with... cash. That's it. You pay money to a set of tools and your gear gets fixed. It's just an annoying mechanic.
3) There's very little real variety between the characters, 85% of the perks you can unlock are shared between them really.
4) There's... usually no reason to kill zombies to begin with, you can just avoid them most of the time. There's a skill every character can learn that lets you stomp on the head of a fallen enemy, so the best strategy for zombies is getting that ... then just jumping up, kicking them down and stomping their head. It's broken as hell.
5) There is no human enemy AI. They automatically go towards specific cover positions, so combat encounters with people boil down to lining up a head shot on the closest enemy to you when he pokes out from cover, then just keeping your iron sights up because the next enemy will move up to that very same position. You can get through combat encounters literally blindfolded doing this.

Everything feels a little slow and clunky and there's not much mystery to it at all. It picks up towards the end, if you can manage to stay awake to that point.

I liked it at the time, but you won't have fun for long playing alone. I can't in good faith recommend it today, even though I do look back fondly on it.

The first area is the best. The other three areas are all crap. I dont even know what they were thinking with the jungle area Jesus.

I'm really in the mood for a horror game though. Maybe I'll play Until Dawn instead.

I think thats the charm of it though but I felt the setting is the main schpiel here + the cast of characters who all have special abilities that makes you consider another playthrough is the meat and potatoes

I would rank it a solid 7 while Dying Light gets a 6.5

I felt like I was actually moving through an island infested with zombies leaving people stranded rather than this like quarantined landscape of two areas with the last of 30 people doing whatever

It has a comical Far Cry feel too which I appreciate

the only two shinning points of Dying Light were the night zombies and running away from the advanced zombies that chase you everywhere.. literally the only time you feel horror.. the parkour aspect was fun but it literally makes facing any zombie irrelevant since weapons are just found or crafted

I think Far Cry 5 does a better job of doing whatever Dying Light was trying to achieve and FC5 isnt even a zombie game lol
