Oversimplified. Intelligence is in most cases the prerequisite to making larger amounts of money, but it is not a guarantee.

Probably a positive correlation between IQ and net worth, but it's not a perfect line. I don't think Jeff Bezos is smarter than Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

So maybe the oil riggers are more intelligent for taking the higher paying career path.

Intelligent people are MORE LIKELY to find opportunities to make more money.

Stupid people can still wind up with swimming pools of cash through dumb luck, favoritism, and good ol fashioned privilege. By comparison, the intelligent folk are just dramatically more likely to keep their cash flow and increase it...

There's are more ways of earning money aside from having a decent job. A intelligent person would try to acquire at least to maximum their earning potential and security.

Sort of, in that wealth and education are synergistic. But it's a chicken and the egg scenario, imo.

also, people who equate intelligence with proficiency in stem are annoyingly close-minded and among the least qualified to be talking about who is or isn't smart imo

Wrong, wrong, wrong. IQ is the gateway to being able to do anything. Everything that you mentioned is undoubtedly important (though one would hope that stepping on toes is not rewarded so often), but none of that matters if someone is not meeting some baseline level of intelligence needed for their endeavor.

Proficiency in STEM, even in those fields that are more qualitative than quantitative, absolutely is a sign of high intelligence. It is also true that there are non-STEM fields that require a high IQ in order to excel (think of successful entrepreneurs or the best writers, artists, composers, etc.), but being able to excel in STEM is undoubtedly a sign of high intelligence. And not to mention, most of the people that excel in cognitively demanding non-STEM fields tend to be just as capable of understanding the complex subject matter of STEM.
