Warriors games are dope, but these crossovers are often lacking in depth. They need to release a new mainline DW to make up for the disaster of the last game.

I actually heard that the Persona one is actually more like a Persona game, it just has Warriors gameplay instead of turn-based battles. So that's kinda interesting. Usually crossover Warriors games are literally straight up just a Warriors game with a familiar coat of paint slapped onto it.

A team based game like rainbow 6 plays nothing like a solo war machine game like doom eternal which plays nothing like a casual shooter like call of duty which plays nothing like the rpg based games like Borderlands. There's plenty of variety, unlike the endless slog of JRPGs using the same formula for decades.

There's plenty of variety, unlike the endless slog of JRPGs using the same formula for decades.

Lmao even if the bullshit you said about RPGs was true, it still wouldn't somehow make FPS a good genre.

Anyway, can't wait for this, been waiting forever for it to get localized. The only downside is that it comes out right before Bravely Default 2, so it will be tough to juggle both.

Looks pretty fucking gorgeous but what the weird is going on with this resurgence of dynasty warriors games? First the new zelda set in the same world and art style of breath of the wild, now persona 5? Probably some others I missed.

Is there something that would lead dynasty warriors type gameplay to be revered now?

Dragon Quest and Fire Emblem have had games too. It works because it's more about selling the franchise is a easily adapted framework. While there are die hard musou fans, this is more of a "if I see one for a series I like I'll pick it up."

On the surface it always seems like I might like those hack and slash games because I do like feeling powerful and decimating a ton of enemies. It's basically like the 1000 heartless battle of KH 2.

And like said battle, it wears thin pretty quickly, so when the entire game is like that I burn out within the first hour and get bored of that gameplay style. Even with a story it's not enough to keep me going

The real meat of the game (for Hyrule Warrios at least) is more about managing a long list of tasks. Combos you use are more about efficiency (or style, if you want) so you can get to the next thing that needs to be managed. So your mind is really engaged in planning your next few moves as new things crop up on the battlefield.

Lol this post. Beat Royal pretty recently. The only thing I agree is that I get super cringed out whenever the characters use the word "adults" when they could have just said people or "those corrupt politicians" instead of being weirdly anal about using the term adult specifically. It's awkward but the expected kind of awkward from japanese rpg.

If you're unironically criticizing the fun and flashy gameplay system of persona 5, I can't even imagine what you'd have to say about something like... dragon quest.

I can see the appeal in gaining levels and opening stables and armories and synthesizing stronger weapons to beat enemies faster but... I dunno. I've always loved the Warriors games ever since DW2. Hyrule Warriors (I guess the definitive edition) is so much fun. I actually think it's better than Age of Calamity. Pirate Warriors 3 was really fun as well, but I have it on Steam and it's such a terrible port. Koei Tecmo has the shittiest PC ports I swear. They aren't as bad these days, but ports around 2015 were beyond garbage. I'm still planning on getting this game for PC though. I assume they would have improved a lot by now. I was debating on getting PW4 on Steam or PS4, but my sister just got it for me for PS4 a few days ago.

it's dull, braindead gameplay throughout.

Why is "smashing the teacher" so bad xD I mean yeah it's stupid but come on dude. This is totally the way these games are. P3 had you flirting online with someone who ended up being your teacher (yes, your MC didn't know) but it's pretty much a gag. The MC is always supposed to be a ridiculous senpai in social links.

I thought you were someone who straight up hated Persona. This makes even less sense now that you like 3 and 4.

About 5 not building on much, I mean eh. They knew what fans wanted and they delivered. It also had to be able to run on a PS3. Now if p6 doesn't add something substantial that will be dumb but I think P5 deserves a pass considering that it was made for ps3 and the others were on ps2. There is yet to be a full fledged "ps4" persona and now next gen is out so next time they have no excuse. But now? I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Even the boring cookie cutter shadows are gone.

I think it could be that I played P3 & P4 when they came out, so it was maybe 10 or 11 years until I played another Persona game, which was P5.

it could be that my preferences changed, or I found a small town murder mystery or potential end of the world threat was more interesting than some kids "changing the hearts" of some bad people.

also, I'm not really a fan of game series that don't build on their foundations in any meaningful way.

like, I like the MGS series, but if MGS3 played like MGS, for example, I would have not been a fan of that.
