I know there are a few large cities there, although I suppose it depends on what you call large, but a lot of it appears to be open spaces.

There is a lot of rural area in PA, yes. The Southeast has a lot of stuff going on, haven't really been to the Pittsburgh area enough to know how it compares.

Yeah, it's pretty fucking empty like most of New York is. The drive through from the start at the NJ border to Cleveland is excruciating.

Yeah. About 30 minutes from the edge of Philly, you hit areas that are primarily farmland. The smaller cities have farmland right next to them. Well, usually there's a highway wrapped around, but it's farmland on the other side.

Pennsylvania is pretty much Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the west, and 1870 Alabama in between.

Pittsburgh in the West, Philly in the East
Some would throw Erie in there which is in the NW.

But for the most part, other than that, it's farmland with small towns in between.
