holy shit Benny is Joey from Deep Rising. It makes so much sense.

The other thing that's kind of weird in the context of the movie is that the Medjai are Muslims despite also believing in/knowing the old Egyptian gods are real.

Also in the first movie it's spelled "Magi" in the subtitles despite the fact the actors/actresses are saying it correctly.

I actually watched it like 2 weeks ago after not seeing it for over a decade myself. great movie tbh, despite basically none of the cast being egyptian

Also lol how do people even know/remember there was a 3rd one? I just googled and it surprisingly made a lot more money than I would have thought, almost half a billion, and it was up against the likes of iron man and dark knight and hell boy 2, not to mentioned gta 4.

After some more googling turns out they were gonna make a 4th one if you can believe it, aztec themed and this time with antonio banderas. I guess the 3rd one was meant to be china, 4th one would be mexico, they were doing a whole "around the world" thing after exhausting ancient egypt location

For as bad as the 3rd one was, easily the worst part of it is that they had Alex fall in love with the 2000-year old immortal Chinese woman, who turns him down because she is immortal and doesn't want to see him die like her mom (also immortal) had to see her dad die, only for her and her mom to both "sacrifice" their immortality later in the movie as part of a straight up deus ex machina, and after it's all done since she's no longer immortal they can be together.

E: Also the end of the movie with Jonathan saying he was going to move to Peru "because there's no mummies there", and then it being revealed as part of the credits that mummies had recently been discovered in Peru was clearly a set-up for the 4th movie (and it was obvious at the time then too) but sadly we never got it.
