Note: I have done almost zero preliminary research, so feel free to roast me if the answer is easy to find. Just gigured I'd throw B8 the first pass here.

I am looking to connect two monitors to both a desktop and a laptop docking station at the same time.

My current home workstation is simple: one monitor connected to a desktop. I want to add a second monitor, which is easy enough. However, my gf just got a new job where she will be working from home with an assigned laptop, and I'd like to see if my home workstation can benefit her as well. I want to get a laptop docking station and connect the two monitors to both it AND my desktop. Essentially, the monitors would work as intended with my desktop but would then "switch over" and serve as her laptop screens the moment she plugs her laptop into the docking station.

Can this be done? Monitors these days have multiple display ports (the one I have now has an HDMI and VGA), so there are theoretically enough ports all around to do the job physically, but I've never seen anyone utilizing this kind of setup, so who knows if it's possible.

I don't know about automatically switching monitors when the laptop is plugged in but you can easily have a monitor hooked up to both a desktop and a laptop and manually switch it
