When it beat Brokeback Mountain, the movie about racial tensions in Los Angeles became one of the more lauded and loathed films in memory. Really, though, its not interesting enough to be either.

All I saw of the movie was when I walked in while my dad was watching it & it was the part where that little girl saves her dad.

I tend to distance myself from terms like Oscar bait etc. because dumb people online kinda ruined them but good fucking lord...

I thought it was kind of pretentious at the time - and I still believe it is - but it's a little more relevant now than it was then (which is a phrase I usually cringe at, but racial divide has seemingly gotten significantly worse since then).

terrible movie, IMO.

it was super heavy-handed, the way characters interacted with each other was often super antagonistically, and it just overall felt really poorly done.

I hated it.
