It's not that most of us "Don't understand women." It's just not socially acceptable to say that you do.

Above all, women are individuals just like men are. In that respect, women are no more complicated than men. But if you go around thinking "Wait, why isn't this woman acting the way I expect her to based on my experience with other women?" It isn't because women are complicated. It's because you're not respecting their individualism.

But since men and women are biologically different, evolution has given them different priorities and psychological needs. Yes, women are different from men, but these differences are going to be pretty basic and observable. The rest I chalk up to individualism. It makes the most sense.

If you subscribe to individualism then everyone is extremely complex...

So when does one stop being a woman and become an individual? Can you give examples of one and the other identities?

Well I explained there are basic differences, so they won't "stop being a woman," but rather the individualism will add to the difference that is already present by being a woman (obviously speaking from a man's perspective).

So women in general will be more emotional than men, or place a higher value on the importance of emotions than I will. Now let's add individualism to this. Some women will be more artistic/carefree/organic thinking oriented, others more straight-edged/rigid/logically oriented. This is where their individualism comes from. But a woman on the fringe of either side of this scale will be different from a man on the same side, because of the biological differences.

And men are, too. At least I know I'm fucking nuts sometimes. Maybe I'm the only one, though.

Sure...

I think men and women are generally more similar, unless they are being heavily stratified and forced to take on different dispositions.

Differences in biology? No one gets mad for saying men are generally larger than women.

But society has given us different standards for our biological similarities. Who has more opportunities to be a successful Instagram model? A 10/10 man or a 10/10 woman? Who has more opportunities to be a successful scientist or engineer? An extremely intelligent man or an extremely intelligent woman?

You were talking about differences in biology, as if size were the only relevant factor in that discussion. I'm talking about how society(s) have encouraged different behaviors and priorities for men and women, and perhaps catalyzed part of the evolutionary (biological) process in that regard.

Biology itself has also conditioned differences. In sex, women strive to be selectors, men strive to be selected.

So it's still at the subliminal level? I read one quote from some random redditor a while ago that really struck a chord in me about the series: "Jordan had many wonderful attributes as a writer, but knowing when to stop smacking us over the head over and over again with the same point wasn't always a strength."

I haven't read enough to know what point he keeps smacking us with yet.

Seems so far that he's pretty feminist in the regard that he chose a woman to basically be Gandalf in his world. But I maybe see that he is conveying that men and women are supposed to play certain roles in society?
