Historically as bad as the things we've done as a country, when it came down to a boiling point of good vs evil, good always triumphed (the north winning, women's rights, nazis being defeated, civil rights act). Modern countries on the side of good have that in their history as well.

This will be the moment that decides whether or not America as an instiution is still considered the good guys or are now the bad guys. This could be the moment where half the government is perfectly okay with evil terrorists invading their capitol and threatening democracy. This is the moment where the message gets sent to the rest of the world that the alleged global "superpower" that is the United States legitimatized white supremacy, sparking a rise in such evil in western countries such as the UJ, France, and other countries in Europe. Because the "leader" of the free world sent a message that white supremacy is okay, and thus how can the other countries not have their white supremacists follow suit?

This week will determine whether or not if in 2121, the side of good looks back on the US the way we currently look back at Germany of 1939.

I think this narrative cherrypicks the happy endings of historic events. The end of reconstruction, for example, was every bit as much of a boiling point, and good did not win. Did good win in Vietnam? Iran-Contra? Iraq?

So basically you probably agree with me that the US has arguably been the bad guys since the late 60s.

Anyway I agree ending Reconstruction (fuck Rutherford B Hayes) was an irreversible toll on this country that benefited the side of evil, but correct me if I'm wrong but that was more of a "lets pander to the south" sort of thing than it was "our civil liberties are at stake, lets fight about it" ?

There was actually a lot of fighting and a lot of people lost their civil liberties in the years that followed.

Damn. That's even worse.

Well I'd like to believe good ended up triumphing in the long run when it escalated to the Civil Rights Act....but being that America was also a notorious beneficiary of imperialism during the time that followed Reconstruction...

Yeah maybe we've always been the bad guys. The country just gets lucky enough to extend its lifespan every once in awhile by accomplishing something good.
