I think diminishing returns sets in regardless of how much you spend and you're looking at about 5 years tops, but more realistically you'll want to upgrade bits after 2

PCmasterrace guys may disagree

Depends on how you treat it, and what you mean by last.

If you mean, how long will it be able to play AAA titles, then depends on where some of that money went; it's all in the case and fans, not long. If it's in the GPU and CPU, probably a good few years.

Honestly like 1k, assuming no monitors or peripherals, is a sweet spot since multiple gpus and the like don't give much of anything for gaming these days.

But assuming you don't need everything maxed all the time and don't want all the best and newest toys, you could probably get close to 10 years out of it if not more pending on what you play.

Yea..... thats why i just buy a new machine every few years. I know fuck all about that kind-of thing. I have a brother though who has been using the "same" pc for like 20 years. In the sense he keeps upgrading various parts. One could argue it isn't really the same machine anymore but I think technically some original parts like the casing, still exist.

Open it and clean it. Dust can get on the RAM/GPU and cause issues.

What are you doing when it lags and, well, how is it letting? Entire system being slow or game giving jittery performance or what?

I'm no tech wizard but I might be able to help out a bit.

Well last night after playing fifa 20 on it with my hdtv connected to it, i left it alone for like 30 minutes cause i was doing other stuff. When i came back to browse da internet, it was in sleep mode(i think dats what its called) and it took longer den usual for it to wake up. When it came back on, da mouse was like 10 times bigger and it wouldn't move. Den it returned to its normal size but da mouse was laggy as fuck. It would also change into like 2 seperate purple lines at times, dats when i got scared and shut it down and went to sleep lol

I thought dat maybe since its always connected to my tv, dat its causing it to use extra power. Or maybe my wireless mouse is dying. I really hope its just my mouse

Honestly that sounds like a weird graphics driver issue, having had something similar happen before. Restarting should typically fix that.

Worst case scenario is it's an actual graphics card problem, but until it happens again or something else it's a problem that's a dramatic conclusion.

Wtf, there's some other shit that's happening that's slowing your computer down lol. Either a driver glitch or some faulty software for your mouse or malware. Even if you have to sometimes upgrade some parts, which is fairly cheap if you can sell whatever you replaced, it's not like an un-upgraded computer goes outdated in like 4-5 years lol. You can also use some like a 10 yr old GPU and run almost everything. Most recommended settings have old ass GPUs written on them for a reason.

For CPUs or RAM and shit, definitely not as easy to replace, but like a Ryzen 3000s series will last you plenty of time. I dunno why you would absolutely need more unless your GPU was the best of the best

Buying a PC by pricepoint instead of hardware is a trap.

Some companies prioritize different things, a lot of the time you'll get a mediocre graphics card that (imo) won't last you more than 2 years if you want 1440p ultra settings at 60fps. You really need a breakdown of the parts list to see where you stand.

Generally, you'll be able to get away with a lower end processor/ram but opt for a better graphics card for a ton longer.

Linus Tech Tips just did a secret shopper for a bunch of prebuilt companies, the vast majority of them were recommending mediocre graphics cards like a 5700xt. No way one of those will last you 7 years.

If you're asking literally how long it will keep working? Then decades, if you take care of it.

If you're asking how long it will run games at decent framerate? Then it varies. If you're only going for 1080p, you'll be set for PS6 and beyond. For 4K Ultra on the latest games though, you'll be upgrading every few years.

What do you guys mean "take care of it"?

Do i need to clean it every month or so? Keep switching out parts? Or do you mean using it like keeping it from not getting viruses or forcing it to play too much stuff?

I built my pc back in 2017. Id say it was about mid-high end at the time and spent around $1800. It had the following:

Intel i7-6700
asus 1080
32gb ram

its still holding up but its showing its age. at max settings, cyberpunk runs at 1080p at around 45fps, 1440p about 22fps and 4K around 10fps.

I am planning on upgrading this year but

do you want to be playing the newest badly optimized ubisoft game at very high settings? maybe 5 years.

do you want to have a generally stable amount of releases with hardware requirements along the lines of hades or crosscode? at least 10 and up to maybe 20 years or over.

the 5870 was released in 2009 at around $400 and still plays games like borderlands 3, greedfall and control:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHuaelWqVl8

so obviously it'll work with games with lower requirements of which there has been and will continue to be a near limitless supply of.

This doesn't sound right. Are you sure something else isn't causing such a drastic frame drop? A 1080 should still do at least 60 frames on ultra 1080. Maybe Cyberpunk's shadow renderer is unoptimized as shit.
