I've beaten the game, so I know a bit about it. But I don't get why people are up in arms. Why do they claim it ruins the online experience? From my understanding it matches with people closer to your level. This doesn't sound that bad.

In the original game it would match you based on your Soul Level, so if you were doing a low level run, you could still get matched with other low level players. You are more likely to run into SL10-25 at the Undead Burg for example.

With the remake, you match based on gear levels, more specifically: weapons. So even if you are doing a low level run, and hang out in the Undead Burg, if you have powerful weapons you aren't gonna get matched with anyone, even though their SL is the same as yours, because their equipment is weaker.

Looks like there's a bizarre system that looks at your weapon upgrade level. So if you want to play with other people, you should refrain from upgrading your weapons too early or getting powerful ones too early.

Sounds like people are mad they can't hang around Undead Burg in full Havel's with a +15 Fire Claymore and invade and one shot noobs.

Good.

So what you're saying is they changed it so you can no longer troll low level players based just on gear anymore.

Sounds great.

It also works the other way. If you grind a bit to upgrade your equipment, you get matched with potentially higher level players but bevaise their gear is of the same level, they will destroy you.

I'm not a big fan of invasions in general. I'm glad these games let you opt out of it lol.

This was in ds3 as well, but could be avoided by taking off the high level item before invading or setting stone. I wonder if thats possible in this game

Quite frankly, I still see it as an improvement. Invaders in DS1 had a million advantages against the host, and they lose absolutely nothing if they die. They should be at a disadvantage more often than not.
