Tough if you are talking about which I like more. I guess Shounen in recent times because DC gasket me down so many times in the film area. Im also not super hardcore in either so my opinion is pretty casual

EDIT: If you are talking about in a fight, comics should win that with how absurd some of these characters are.

If we take out the whole plot armor thing since it would apply both ways and cancel each other, there are beings in comic books that have powers beyond your typical shounen protagonist.

Sure, you can go and find someone with theoretical infinite power like Xeno-sama from DBS or something, but there are more comic books heroes that can rival the best of the shounen characters, while the same can't be said for shounen characters against someone like The Spectre, Superman, Chaos King, Galactus, etc.

Too many OP comic characters like Supes, Hulk, Thor, Silver Surfer, Dr. Fate, Dr. Strange, Flash, Green Lantern, Shazam/Captain Marvel, Wonder Women (almost everyone I listed here is a Universe Buster)

That's not counting the cosmic entities which are literal reality warping Gods

if you count webnovels and light novels as part of the animeverse you'd be surprised by how many OP characters authors have made up that rival the beings that you have listed. many of these are not that popular and will never be adapted to anime or translated to English.

the popular shounen characters adapted to anime though are for sure weaker than comic book beings on average. I agree to that

I've liked both, but I've learned Western comics like Marvel are going to disappoint at the end the day. I tried keeping up with X-men comics from the Messiah Complex to Uncanny X-men 500. I realized that they really could have they're characters take meaningful action. Scott had been doing an amazing job leading the X-men and doing cool things, but they ended up making him hated by all. The mutant revolution they were hyping up ended up just being a peaceful protest.

because if it was based on story or likability of the characters or well thought out character development. anime wins most of the time. even for just shonen

Unless you bar cosmic level and omnipotent beings, the fight ends in a tie between the lines of The One Above All, The Presence, Kami-sama Tenchi, The Lord of Darkness, etc.

Shonen wins in terms of consistency. Even shitty shonen tends to be far less insufferable than shitty cape comics.

But peak comic super heroes >>>>>>> peak shonen

Of course thats mostly just a matter of how the industries operate imo.

Most of the best western superhero stories would probably be considered seinen, for one. And even then, the comic industry has the benefit of licensing out its heroes to different authors constantly, creating a collaboratively built mythology.

if DC was a Japanese manga publisher, thered be no Alan Moores Swamp Thing, or Mark Waids Flash, Dennis O Neils Batman, etc. So no Anatomy Lesson, no Ras Al Ghul, etc. Those additions and refinements only came because of how most Western comics publishing works
